TheDepartmentofControlSystemOptimization (CSO)wasfoundedin 1969 onthebasis of the Laboratory of Controllocated at the Faculty of Manufacture Management, created by the initiative of the Rector of Tomsk Polytechnic Institute, prof.A.A. Vorobyovand the Head of the Laboratory, prof.V.Z. Yampolskiy.PresentlytheDepartmentisa partofthe InstituteofCybernetics.
Missionofthe Instituteisgeneration, proliferation, andapplicationofknowledgeinthesphereofappliedmathematics, computer engineering, informationtechnologies,andcontrol systems in the process ofconducting fundamental and applied research, also training and retraining ofengineering and scientific personnel.
TheInstitute'slong-term strategicgoalinlinewithitsmissionis the creation of conditions and incentivesfor the development of innovation activity andtraining in compliance with the world standards.
Uniquefeature: theDepartment'sdevelopmentandformationofacademic and laboratory base was inseparably linked with the development of computer technologies in Russia and abroad.TheDepartmentofCSOisarecognizedleaderofTPUin the sphere ofmathematical support and software for computer equipment.In 2007–2009 theDepartmenttookpartinrealizationofTPUInnovativeEducationProgram"Preemptive training of elite specialists and world-class specialist teams in data telecommunications systems and technologies". AstheresultofimplementingtheInnovativeEducationProgramtheInstituteofCyberneticsbecamehometothe Centre for Advanced IT Specialists Trainingoperating asupercomputer cluster with the performance of more than 3 teraflops.
