Guidance Information

1The following legislation and regulations must be complied with: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; and Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995.

2Assessment against this unit standard must take place in a workplace environment. Assessment parameters will depend on company and site specific equipment, procedures, and practices. Practices must reflect industry best practice and comply with legislative requirements.

3Definitions

Company requirements include the policy, procedures, and methodologies of the company. They include legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to the company or a specific site. Requirements are documented in the company’s health and safety plans, traffic management plans, contract work programmes, quality assurance programmes, policies, and procedural documents.

Contract specifications include plans, diagrams, and special technical conditions. They do not include special administrative conditions.

Job instructions are those given to the operator prior to undertaking a job. They may include site safety instructions, contract drawings, and written memos.

Outcomes and performance criteria

Outcome 1

Perform pre-start and field-servicing procedures on a reclaimer stabiliser.

Performance criteria

1.1Machine pre-start check is undertaken prior to start-up in accordance with company requirements.

1.2Surrounding area is checked using mirrors in accordance with company requirements.

1.3Reclaimer stabiliser system is inspected for operability prior to start-up in accordance with company requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – drum, holders, tips, drive, hoses, control systems, water tanks.

1.4Field-servicing of reclaimer stabiliser is carried out in accordance with company requirements.

Rangefuel, oil, water, grease, hydraulic oil, minor repairs.

Outcome 2

Confirm job instructions for road reclaimer stabiliser.

Performance criteria

2.1Type of surface to be milled and mixed is confirmed in accordance with job instructions.

2.2Reclaimer stabiliser sequences are described in accordance with contract specifications and company requirements.

Outcome 3

Mill and mix a pavement layer.

Performance criteria

3.1Pavement layer is milled and mixed in accordance with contract specifications and company requirements.

Rangesubgrade, sub-base, base course.

3.2Reclaimer stabiliser machine operation optimises performance of work process.

Rangedepth, line, overlaps, communication, may include additives.

Outcome 4

Refuel, park, and inspect a reclaimer stabiliser.

Performance criteria

4.1Machine is refuelled and oils checked in accordance with company requirements.

4.2Machine is parked safely and secured in accordance with company requirements.

4.3Any wear on reclaimer stabiliser equipment is reported in accordance with company requirements.

4.4Machine is inspected and any faults are reported in accordance with company requirements.
