2018 FCCLA/KNOWLEDGE MATTERS VIRTUAL BUSINESS CHALLENGE

CHAMPIONS ANNOUNCED

For Immediate Release - Knowledge Matters and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) today announced the winners of the FCCLA/Knowledge Matters Virtual Business Challenge Personal Finance (VBC) competition. Teams of FCCLA members across the country using the Virtual Business Personal Finance simulation competed and were judged on total net worth achieved after two simulated years.

The winning teams of the National Championship Round Challenge receive travel awards to attend the 2018 National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, June 28-July 2. These teams will participate in the Knowledge Matters exhibit to demonstrate the simulation software to more than 7,500 FCCLA members and advisers.

Congratulations to the national championship team of Ben Berdal and Taylyn Thompson from May-Port CG High School in Mayville, North Dakota! They receive recognition at the 2018 National Leadership Conference and a travel award of $1000.00. Their winning simulated net worth of $853,461.04 topped all other teams.

Earning a simulated net worth of $844,529.27 and 2nd place, as well as a travel award of $500, is Dakota Dooley, Kaitlyn Miller, and Kyla Colvin from Cherokee High School in Cherokee, Oklahoma.

Earning a simulated net worth of $777,792.18 and 3rd place, and a travel award of $250, is Paige Bethel, from Montgomery County R-2 Senior High School, Missouri.

“FCCLA members love competing online against other FCCLA members in the annual FCCLA Virtual Business Challenge,” said Peter Jordan, President and CEO of Knowledge Matters. “FCCLA is a great partner in helping organize the annual FCCLA VBC with FCCLA chapters throughout the country.”

Virtual Business Personal Finance is one of eight Virtual Business simulations designed for teaching business, marketing and personal finance to high school students.

It’s fun to see how passionate our members are as they compete against other FCCLA teams across the country to generate the highest net worth in the simulation,” said Sandy Spavone, Executive Director of FCCLA.
