The OpenConf System

OpenConf is a commercialplatform that enables AALHE to provide our members with an effective and satisfying experience as they participate in our annual conference. OpenConf supports all processes associated with organizing and hosting a conference, including online submission and review of proposed sessions. The following instructions will guide you through the process of submitting your proposal via the OpenConf system.

We strongly recommend that you write an electronic draft of your proposal, including all information that you will be asked to provide online, PRIOR to entering information into OpenConf. You will be able to cut and paste from your electronic document and insert text directly into each section of the online Proposal Submission Form. This assures that you won’t permanently lose any information during the submission process.

Please enter or insert the requested information into each section of the form. In some instances, you will select a response from a menu of choices. The Proposal Submission Form

Submission Title

Brief title that will generate interest in your session and inform members of your intended focus.

Author(s)

Information about all presenting authors of the session. Requested information includes contact information, a short bio, and indication of the presenter’s status as a student.

Contact Author

The person who will serve as the point of contact between all presenting authors in the proposed session.

Alternate Contact

A person who can be contacted in the event the contact author is unavailable.

Submission Type

Select the session format of your proposed session.

Levels

Select ONE of the four levels of impact that best reflect the focus of your proposed session.

Keywords

List 3-5 keyword or phrases (Examples: academic assessment, accreditation, analytics, assessment culture, assessment cycle, co-curricular assessment, data analysis, data collection, faculty engagement, general education, graduate education, learning improvement, methods, program review, reliability, reporting, rubrics, student affairs, use of results, validity)

Abstract

Brief (150 words max) description of the session’s purpose, specific focus, intended audience, and planned engagement of participants in learning through your session.

Focus and Intended Audience

Provide a succinct explanation of the content and focus (knowledge, practice, dialogue, or other) of your proposed session, with evidence to support your case that the session is relevant, timely, and likely to contribute to developing knowledge and understanding in the field of higher learning assessment. Identify the intended audience of learners who will most benefit from the session.

Learning Outcomes

Identify and clearly describe intended learning for your audience, appropriate to the focus and session type. If you are proposing a skill-building session, describe how you will assess learning outcomes.

Strategy for Engaging Conference Participants

Describein detailyour strategy for engaging participants in learning through the session. This can be through questions, activities, role-play, dialogue, or other methods of engagement. Describe the organization of the session, the proposed timeline, the proposed activities, and assessment process (if applicable).

Presentation Materials and Technology Needs

Identify the materials you will use to share information and engage participants (e.g., handouts, power point presentations, posters, videos, etc.). If possible, upload draft or final electronic versions of these materials. Identify any additional space and layout needs that need to be met to assure a successful learning experience.

Unplugged Thursday is a unique feature of the 2018 Annual Conference. Time on that day will be devoted to opportunities to work in teams, reflect on what you’ve learned during the conference, see encore presentations, and attend sessions light on technology and strong on dialogue and interaction.
