Six Steps to Certification:

1.  CALL OR WRITE: To locate the head office or a chapter near you, please call (306) 682-3126 or e-mail .

2.  READING: Organic requirements vary dependent upon where you are located and where you are selling. You will need to be aware of the regulations that apply to the region in which you are certifying. For example, to sell a product as organic in Canada, you must be certified to the Canadian Organic Standards (COR).

3.  SUBMISSION: You will need to complete the Operator Licensing Agreement (OLA). You will need to identify the TCO Cert accredited programs to which you wish to certify. Send the OLA, along with your supporting documentation, along with the non-refundable certification fee, to TCO Cert.

4.  INSPECTION: Once your application has been received, it will be reviewed for completeness by your Certification Coordinator or Chapter Administrator and a pre-inspection review will be completed by the Certification Decision Team. A TCO Cert-approved Inspector will be assigned to visit your operation. An authorized representative of your operation must be available to answer questions during the inspection. The Inspector will send the Inspection Report directly to TCO Cert for review.

5.  REVIEW: The Certification Decision Team will review your file to verify that your operation is in compliance with the standards to which you requested certification.

6.  DECISION: If your operation is found to be in compliance, TCO Cert will send you a Certificate of Organic Certification. Your certified products and programs of certification will be identified. A copy of your inspection report and a checklist will also be provided with the Certificate, to give guidance on what can be done to improve your organic operation. Your certification will remain in effect until it is surrendered, suspended, revoked or cancelled. You still need to submit annual updates and have annual inspections to maintain certification.
