A LETTER FROM OUR CONDUCTOR

Dear Singers,

Congratulations on your acceptance into the2017 NHMEA Elementary Honors Choral Festival! I am sure you have been growing as a musician and feel honored to be nominated for the choir. Your participation will be an opportunity for you to join together with other singers from surrounding communities. In addition to extending my congratulations, I also wish to briefly introduce myself and offer some guidance as you prepare for our rehearsals and performance.

I have worked with choirs since I myself was a singer in elementary choir. This year,I am serving as a guest conductor for festivals in NH and MA and my children’s choirs were involved in two opera premieres. I teach at Messiah College as an adjunct professor in the choral conducting program and worked for ten years as theDirector of Choirs for the award-winning Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC). I have taughtstudents ranging in age from pre-school through adult, andI especially enjoy working with treble choirs. I look forward to meeting you and working with this ensemble!

The more preparation you do before we gather in March, the better. Learning correct pitches and rhythms on your own will allow us to work toward building a good sound and crafting a musical performance. The program I selected is purposefully varied. Whether the text is in English or a language less familiar to you and the mood solemn or up beat, these selections represent some of the finest choral repertoire and bring music from Bach to the modern to the audience. I hope you will find one or more pieces that you truly love. I can’t wait to hear you sing!

All my best,

Michele Adams
