Guidelines for the Online Grant Application

Important Dates

Applications will close April 17, 2017. IASP will announce grant awards in June 2017 and will disburse funding for the initial 12-month grant period upon satisfactory execution of the grant agreement between IASP and the grant recipient's institution.

About the Grant

The IASP Developing Countries Collaborative Research Grants support international interdisciplinary collaborations in pain research in a developing country (see list of eligible countries). IASP may award one grant of up to $US15,000 to a research proposal that demonstrates the greatest merit and potential for success. The grant covers travel and accommodation costs to support collaborative research. The grant does not support overhead. Applications will be reviewed by the Fellowships, Grants, and Awards Working Group of IASP, which will review and provide feedback on all applications.

General Information About the Application

Completed applications must be submitted in English via the online application system and include all required documents. The deadline for submissions is midnight Eastern U.S. time on April 17, 2017.Additional instructions appear below.

The Application

Title Applicants must provide a concise title for the proposed project.

Collaborators/Principal Investigators (PIs) The application must be completed by the PI in charge of the overall project. The following information must be provided for each PI: first and last name (*), professional degree, IASP member number (required for PI in charge of the overall project (*), current institution (*), postal address (*), telephone (*), primary email (*), alternative email.Please note that items marked with a red asterisk are required fields.

Collaboration History Applicants must provide information on any previous collaborations between PIs, including the nature, dates, and places of such collaboration. Applicants also must provide information on current collaborative grant funding, if any, and include details on type of funding, funding body, amount, duration, date of commencement, and the topic of research.

Additional Sources of Funding Applicants must provide information on the source and amount of funding each collaborating institution will make available to complete the work proposed in the application.

Summary The summary should not exceed 200 words.

Program of Exchange Visits Applicants must provide a plan of collaboration for each visit, including the institution and country of visits, names of travelling participants, and dates of travel.

Budget Applicants must download, complete, and upload the IASP budget template.

Project Narrative Applicants must respond to the following questions in one sentence:

(1) What problem does this collaborative research address?

(2) How will the research do so?

(3) What are the implications of the project’s outcomes?

Future Work Applicants describe how the data this project obtains will influence future work, patents, or external support.

Curricula Vitae Applicants must download the IASP short-version curriculum vitae template and upload the completed form for each collaborating PI.

Attachments Applicants must upload two documents in this section:

• Description of project: Word document, four pages maximum including references, 11 pt. font, half-inch (1.27 cm) margins)

• Institutional letter: PI in charge of the overall project listed under “Institute 1” in the Collaborators section must provide a letter from his or her institutional office that includes:

o Evidence of professional independence (i.e., a faculty-level academic appointment)

o Nonprofit status of the institution

o Acknowledgment that neither the IASP nor the IASP Developing Countries Collaborative Research Grant will be liable (i.e., charged) for any indirect costs (overhead and handling fees) associated with the execution of the work described in the application.

Final Information Applicants must check the e-signature box and provide the full name of the PI in charge of the overall project.
