Tournament Rules:

Note, weather permitting, the 2017 tournament will be played on Sep 8, Sep 15 and Sep 22.

The tournament will consist of 7-inning single-elimination games played as the final 3 weeks of the season. All teams (except the loser of Game 8) will continue to play through the final week of the season. The competition for the league championship is single-elimination. Each week, the winners in the Championship bracket move closer to the title while losers move to the consolation bracket and continue to play.

Seeding for the tournament will be settled by win/loss record, overall runs allowed, overall runs scored, and coin flip. Home team in Championship bracket is the higher seeded team. Coin flip for home team in Consolation bracket.

Because we have an uneven number of teams this year, one play-in game will be played between the 8th and 9th place teams as the final week of their regular season and is the determining factor for entry into the Championship bracket. The loser of the play-in game is eliminated from Championship contention and has a bye for the 1st week of the tournament, but they are automatically placed in the Consolation bracket starting in the 2nd week of the tournament.

The loser of “Game 1” of the tournament has the bye for the second week of the tournament, and plays their final game in the 3rd week of the tournament.

The loser of “Game 8” of the tournament has lost twice, has a bye during the 3rd week of the tournament, and is finished for the season.

Each week of the tournament features one 7-inning game. The initially higher-seeded team is the home team. Teams can start the count at 1-1 or 0-0, based on agreement. For time purposes, it is recommended to start with a 1-1 count.

All playing rules and bat rules remain the same.

Games called/cancelled due to weather/darkness before 5 complete innings (or 4½ innings if the home team is winning) must be completed unless agreed to by both teams, time TBD.

No ringer rule: To be fair to all, teams must play their regular season players that appeared on their paid roster. In order to be eligible for the Championship play, all players must have had at least one at-bat (appeared) in at least half the regular season games. All players get at-bat credit for the rainouts we have throughout the season. Teams may start a game with 9 players, playing 3 outfielders. Opponents are not required to “spot” a catcher for a team that only has 9 players, but may choose to do so and thereby waive all rights to call for a forfeit unless the opposing team’s player-count drops below 9. Teams with less than 9 of their own players on the field at 6:15 or later will forfeit that game, but unofficial play may occur with the understanding that this game is officially a forfeit. All players must be at least 30 years old.
