2017 Coyote Howl @ The College of Idaho

Dates: March 4-5, 2017

Entry Deadline is Monday, February 27th at 5 PM.

Registration on Tabroom.com

Tournament Philosophy:

The College of Idaho Howling Yote’s Speech and Debate team operates based on the values of Community, Diversity, and Professionalism. In line with these values, we seek to offer an 8-round debate tournament. Our model, for a late season tournament, places the highest value on offering every team the maximum number of debate rounds—which means that we will not have traditional out-rounds at the tournament.

In addition, during the course of the tournament, competitors will be asked to nominate and vote for several awards to recognize students for their contributions to the activity outside of the competitive debate round.

Finally, because we anticipate several teams traveling into the area for the debate tournament—we have scheduled the day to enable folks to head out early on Sunday, in order to make it back to their homes safely with some time to recharge for the start of school on Monday.

Events:

This tournament will open NPDA style debate only. Given adequate entries, we would be pleased to offer both a JV and Open Division, but anticipate only having a single division at this event.

Fees & Judging:

This is event will be a no fee tournament. A limited set of awards will be provided, with recognition of the top two teams in each division, as well as a variety of other, community voted awards.

Because we will not be asking for fees at this tournament, we cannot accept uncovered entries. If you are struggling to find a judge, or would like to contact a local to fulfill a commitment for you, please contact Kyle Cheesewright at

One judge covers two teams.

NPDA: 25 minute prep time will begin on the release of the topic to the competitors along with the postings. Time limits are 7-8-8-8-4-5. We will utilize the NPDA Rules of Debating and Judging.

Registration:

Teams can register for the tournament online, at Tabroom.com. The online registration will open on February 1st.

We anticipate using the Katherine Albertson International Center (KAIC) library for Tournament Central. Registration will begin at 7.30 am on Saturday.

Parking:

There is a large, general parking lot located on Indiana Ave, between Caldwell Boulevard and East Oak Street. Parking in this lot is free, and close to the tournament headquarters.

Tournament Hotel:

No Designated hotel.

There are two fairly nice, and reasonably priced hotels located close to campus. Both Hotels offer free wifi and a continental breakfast. It is also possible to book hotel rooms in Nampa, Meridian, and even Boise—though booking hotel rooms in these locations would require slightly more travel time.
