Mission

The purpose of the Hilda and Hershel Rich Endowment is to support student leadership development with a societal impact, including both individual and group activities, through volunteerism, internships, research projects, and other relevant activities. Successful proposals will engage the Houston community, the Rice University campus community, and foster leadership and creativity among Rice students.

In addition to the Rich Family Endowment goals, proposals should also align with the mission of the Center for Civic Leadership, to foster engaged citizenship. Applicants should demonstrate that they are approaching their project from an informed and ethically sound position. In order to ensure the quality of projects receiving grants, the CCL will support recipients throughout project implementation through the Rich Family Endowment Cohort. Grant recipients will participate in developmental workshops with their cohort periodically in order to foster and enhance skills in resource development, ethical civic engagement, leadership, and more.

Qualifications

Returning students may apply for funding in any amount needed for the scope of the project. There are no monetary limits for requests; recent grants have been awarded $300-$15,000. The budget should be appropriate to the scale and impact of the project.

Graduating seniors can apply for post-graduate support up to $5,000 for a summer project that aligns with the purpose of the Endowment. Funding for basic lodging, meals, and transportation costs can be included in the project budget. However, the Endowment does not fund wages or stipends.
