A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE WARMEST CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HONORABLE MICK MULVANEY OF LANCASTER, FRIEND AND COLLEAGUE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE, UPON HIS CONFIRMATION AS DIRECTOROF THE WHITE HOUSE OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET IN PRESIDENT TRUMP’S CABINET,AND TO WISH HIM THE VERY BEST AS HE UNDERTAKES THIS NEW ROLE SERVING OUR NATION.

Whereas, the United States Senate confirmed Mick Mulvaney as the director of the White House Office of Management and Budget on Thursday, February 16, 2017; and

Whereas, a lifelong resident of the Carolinas, Mickattended Georgetown University, where he graduated with honors in international economics, commerce, and finance. After college, Mick attended law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he completed his formal education at Harvard Business School’s Owner and PresidentManagement program in 2006; and

Whereas, Mick is a serial entrepreneur, having started four businesses. He has private sector experience across many fields, including law, real estate, homebuilding, and restaurants. He has also been a columnist for his local paper and an occasional college lecturer; and

Whereas, Mickserved in both the South Carolina House of Representatives andSouth Carolina Senate. During his tenure with the South Carolina Senate, Mick served on the Judiciary Committee; the Labor, Commerce, and Industry Committee; the Medical Affairs Committee; the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee; and the Corrections Committee; and

Whereas, sworn in as a member of United States House of Representativeson January 5, 2011, Mick became the first Republican from Lancaster County to win the 5th Congressional District seat in more than one hundred years. He served on the Financial Services Committee, the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the Committee on Small Business, and the Budget Committee; and

Whereas, a community-minded individual, he is a founding member of the Indian Land Rotary, a youth baseball coach, a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, and a founding member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Mission; and

Whereas, Mickspends his free time gardening, golfing, and writing. He and his wife Pam were married in 1998 and are the proud parents of triplets; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure and respect that the members of the South Carolina Senate desire to publicly applaud DirectorMick Mulvaney’s dedication to the high calling of public service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, extend the warmest congratulations to the Honorable Mick Mulvaney of Lancaster, friend and colleague of the South Carolina Senate, upon his confirmation as director of the White House Office of Management and Budgetin President Trump’s cabinet,and wish him the very best as he undertakes this new role serving our nation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Mick Mulvaney.
