AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR MR. JAMES MOULTRIE ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM DILLON MIDDLE SCHOOL AND TO EXTEND DEEP APPRECIATION FOR HIS FIFTYONE YEARS OF SERVICE IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE TO THE CHILDREN OF OUR GREAT STATE.

Whereas, since September 1, 1965, Dillon County eighthgraders have been blessed with the tutelage of James Moultrie who, after over fifty years of dedicated service, retired on May 27, 2016; and

Whereas, born to Susanna Moultrie and Reverend Willis Graham, James graduated in 1961 from Latimer High School in Latta. In preparation for his life’s work, he sought higher educationatSumter’s Morris College,from which he graduated in 1965. That same year, he began an honored career in education lasting half a century; and

Whereas, noted for his informative and simple style of teaching, James, one of the longestserving educators in Dillon history, helped activate a love of history in many young lives.He inspired many during his tenure at Gordon High School, J.V. Martin Junior High School, Maple Junior High School, and Dillon Middle School, from which he retired. Dillon School District Two and Dillon School District Four have enjoyed the outstanding service of this devoted employee for the entirety of his fiftyoneyear career; and

Whereas, not one to settle for merely delivering academic instruction, he also was dedicated to setting an example for students outside the classroom. His talentswere provided to such organizations as the J.V. Martin Junior High School Student Council, as well as other groups too numerous to mention; and

Whereas, in addition to his commitment to the education of his students, Mr. Moultrie lives out his devotion tothe serviceof his church. He has offered his assistance in a multitude of areas. New Hope Baptist Church has been a recipient of James’s charitable nature in his service on the deacon board, board of trustees, and gospel choir.He has further served as church treasurer and van driver and has filled the posts of Sunday school teacher and Baptist Training Union teacher; and

Whereas, not only is James passionate about his church, but he is also ardent about the sports he loves. As a promising young athlete, he started on his high school baseball team for four years and on the Morris College baseball team for three years. When his playingcareer ended, he decided to stay involved in the world of sports by becoming a referee and officiating basketball, football, baseball, and softball games. Mr. Moultrie was so reveredthat he was inducted into the South Carolina Basketball Officials Association Hall of Fame in 2008; and

Whereas, James Moultrie finds his strongest support in his family. He has been married to his beloved wife, Hazel R. Moultrie, for the past fortynine blissful years. Together, they have four cherished children, Timothy, Douglas, James Patrick, and Camilla, as well as grandchildren who continually make them proud; and

Whereas, the House is grateful for the legacy of dedication and service James Moultrie has given to the children of Dillon. It is with great regret that his many admirers have seen him hang up his hat, but all who know him take great pleasure in wishing him much enjoyment in his welldeserved retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor Mr. James Moultrie on his retirement from Dillon Middle School and extend deep appreciation for his fiftyone years of service imparting knowledge to the children of our great State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to James Moultrie.
