2017-18 TMEA Region 30 Honor Choir Auditions
What is it? Region Choir is made up of the top middle school students from Texas Music Educators Association Region 30. It includes middle schools from Burleson, Cleburne, Weatherford, Springtown, Azle, and Keller.
How many choirs and how many students? There are 3 Region Choirs for 7th and 8th grade students: Honor Treble Choir, Select Treble Choir, and the Tenor/Bass Choir. In total about 250 students are chosen for the Region Choirs.
Do I have to audition? yes, placement is determined through an audition process in which students sing parts of songs from three pre-selected songs.
If I get into the choir, do I have to attend the rehearsals and concert? Yes, you MUST attend if you are accepted. If you know that you cannot attend the clinic/concert, do not audition.
IMPORTANT DATES
AUDITION DATE: Saturday, October 21st at Fossil Ridge High School (Keller, TX) this will be an All-Day event.
REHEARSAL/CLINIC DATE: Saturday, December 2nd at Chisolm Trail High School (This will be an All-Day event with a concert to conclude the day)
CONCERT: Saturday, December 2nd at Chisolm Trail High School (Saginaw, TX)
When do I find out if I made it? Results will be given to directors the day of the audition.
What should I wear? Wear your choir t-shirt and dress comfortably. Wear your concert attire for the concert
Do I have to meet UIL eligibility requirements in order to participate? Yes.
What are the audition songs? Each student must learn four songs. For the actual audition, you only sing parts of three of the songs. We call these “cuts”. You will know what the cut is about a week before the audition. GMS will host a Region Cut rehearsal where we will stay after school work the cuts together and enjoy dinner and conversation.

Do the judges know me? The audition is called a blind audition – you sing behind a screen so that the judges do not see you and you do not see the judges.
How do I learn the audition music? Audition parts are pre-recorded. The parts are posted on the GMS Choir website for download to your computer, MP3 player, phone, etc. CD’s can be made available to students without MP3 player availability. Please keep in mind that the recorded part-learning music is only a guide for part-learning. You will need to come in before and/or after school for sectional rehearsals.

I _________________________________________________ (student) understand that I have a commitment to audition for the 2017-2018 TMEA ALL-REGION HONOR CHOIR on October 21, 2017 at Fossil Ridge High School.
I understand that I have signed up to audition and accept the responsibility to be at the All-Region Clinic and Concert on SATURDAY, December 2, 2017 at Chisolm Trail High School if I am selected to sing in the choir.
I understand that if I get into the choir and fail to attend the clinic/concert, I am not being fair to another student who could have had my place in the choir.
I understand that the choir activity fund has kindly agreed to pay for my entry fee and choir music if I get into the choir.
I will be friendly and respectful to the other students who are auditioning by following the rules of the Audition Procedures.
I understand that I must meet UIL Eligibility requirements in order to participate.
I understand that, if I am selected to one of the choirs, I will be respectful to the director and other student musicians by demonstrating perfect rehearsal etiquette.
I understand that I am expected to follow the GISD Code of Conduct for Extracurricular Activities.
