2016 Sacramento Leadership Experience conferences
California FFA is seeking to hire three (3) Leadership Conference Facilitators and one (1) Conference Team Leader for SLE to work under the direction of the State FFA Leadership Development Coordinator for the purposes of delivering and coordinating Sacramento Leadership Experience conferences during spring of 2016.
Individuals should have experience in public speaking, motivating and/ or mentoring students, classroom or meeting management, be able to take constructive feedback and coaching, and work independently, as well as part of a team. Significant experience with conference facilitation is required; experience with government or politics is preferred and should be noted on the applicant’s resume.
Sacramento Leadership Experience (SLE) 45-60 seniors per conference
Contract: December 1, 2015 to March 15, 2016
California FFA’s premier capstone conference, individuals and teams are prepared to make things happen. Skills for solving problems, making decisions and accomplishing goals are developed. Students step into the role of one of California's State legislators, are assigned a specific California district and spend four days in Sacramento. SLE is all about the role of government, agricultural policy and advocacy. This conference focuses on "DO: the ability of the individual leader and team to put their vision into action.”

LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE FACILITATOR (I AND II) DESCRIPTION
Leadership Conference Facilitators (I and II) will be expected to facilitate and deliver conference curriculum to FFA members both in a large group and small group setting. Facilitators are expected to possess strong knowledge relative to their specific conference and conduct additional research to become prepared. Additional role responsibilities include coaching FFA members, motivating and engaging students, and classroom management (with the exception of student discipline, which is the responsibility of teachers supervising at the conference).
Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
· Review curriculum and conference video footage to prepare for training
· Work independently and in small groups to prepare for conferences and practice curriculum
· Participate in large group training seminars:
o Friday, December 4 to Sunday, December 6, 2015 – Recommended Dates
o Tuesday, January 12 to Thursday, January 14, 2016 – Recommended Dates
o Friday, February 5 to Sunday, February 7, 2016 – Recommended Dates
· Participate in one team training/ prep the weekend before SLE:
o Friday, March 4 to Monday, March 7, 2016 – Required Dates
· Facilitate and deliver one conference, pre-assigned before training
o Tuesday, March 8 to Friday, March 11, 2016 – Required Dates
o Communicate with professors and course instructors to notify of absence
o Perform general pre and post-conference duties including set up and loading of supplies, sometimes early in the morning and late in the afternoon
o Facilitate actual conference based on SLE schedule
o Evaluate the conference and self-critique in order to enhance individual performance
Facilitator position requirements:
· Level I (L1) – new to facilitation and/ or have never facilitated GLC, MFE, ALA or SLE
o Curriculum and facilitation responsibilities will generally be less challenging for new
Level I facilitators than that of Level II assignments, as new facilitators grow and develop professionally
· Level II (L2) – experienced or returning facilitator
o Curriculum and facilitation responsibilities will generally be more challenging for returning Level II facilitators than that of Level I assignments, as returning facilitators grow and develop professionally
· Be enrolled in a two or four year university; staff should not take the semester or quarter off
o Trainings will begin on Fridays based on staff schedules and conclude Sunday evening
o Staff will miss a week of classes for SLE
· Possess excellent public speaking skills
· Experience in managing conferences and/ or students
· Extensive knowledge of Agricultural Education, including Classroom/ Laboratory Instruction, Supervised Agricultural Experience and the National FFA Organization
· Extensive knowledge of critical issues in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Education
· Knowledge of government, public policy and economics, specially California policies
· Experience in facilitation is required
· Be able to present in business formal attire
· Be able to multitask and balance a busy schedule that prioritizes educational obligations, family commitments and work for California FFA, as well as social, physical, spiritual and mental needs
· Be able to work independently, as well as a part of a team
CONFERENCE TEAM LEADER DESCRIPTION
Conference Team Leaders will serve as the on-site manager for the conference. The Team Leader will assist with and be responsible for coordinating preparation, travel and on-site logistics, the delivery and evaluation of conference curriculum, and will manage and provide support and coaching for all Facilitators, under the supervision of state staff. The Team Leader will report to and work closely with the State Leadership Development Coordinator, with additional duties as assigned.
*The team leader is not encouraged or expected to defer their spring semester/ quarter of college.
Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
· Participate in Team Leader training seminar:
o One day or meetings in preparation
· Review and assist in preparing curriculum and conference video footage
· Assist in developing and conducting group training seminar
· Coach and assist in developing teams as they prepare for conferences and practice curriculum
· Serve as the on-site manager, with support from the State Leadership Development Coordinator
o Management of conference supplies and equipment for your team
o Coordinate on site logistics with State Leadership Development Coordinator; specifically moving the groups at the Capitol, including debate, hearings and visits; assisting with guest speaker logistics; and other additional duties as assigned.
Team Leader position requirements:
· At least one year of facilitation experience with California FFA
· All requirements of a Leadership Conference Facilitator
COMPENSATION
· Leadership Conference Facilitator II - $1,250.00 per conference
o Facilitators will work one conference
· Conference Team Leader - $1,350.00 per conference
o Team Leaders will work one conference
· Training Stipend
o Facilitator - $600.00 total (Approx. $50 per day; $150 per training)
o Team Leader - $900.00 total (Approx. $75 per day; $225 per training)
· Travel, lodging and meal expenses will be paid as per state guidelines
· Official nametag will be provided

3. Facilitation Video Example
- Videos will be reviewed to determine facilitation, teaching and speaking ability
- Videos should be a minimum of five (5) minutes in length, but does not need to be longer than twenty (20), and focus on facilitation or teaching, not a prepared speech or lecture
o Videos should showcase at least two of the following steps:
§ Setting Context (background, set the scene, paint a picture)
§ Giving Directions (specifics of what’s required, when, where, who)
§ Processing an Activity (outcome, what happened)
o Video footage should also focus on building rapport, making connections with students and showcasing your personality
- Video footage may be of an event previously facilitated, or you may create new footage
- You may design your own curriculum or use the lessons from FFA Life Knowledge:

- Upload footage to YouTube and provide a link to the video in your application
o You may publish as “unlisted” (only people who have the link can view it) if you wish
o Make certain the video is not listed as “private”
- If you have worked for California FFA facilitating a GLC, MFE, ALA or SLE within the previous three years and you completed your employment in good standing, you may skip submission of a video clip
