2016 PRICE BEND OVERNIGHT

1ST ANNOUNCEMENT & AMENDMENT – destination changed to Pt. Jeff

We have recently learned that the beach we use for cocktails and barbecue on Sand City

Peninsula has been temporarily closed by DEP. Consequently, it would not make sense

to go to Price’s Bend if we cannot go ashore.

Here is the announcement by the DEP:

The public is being asked to cooperate with the temporary closing (expect until about June 28th) of the Hobart Beach/Sand City Peninsula beyond the parking lot near the Bird Preserve.

This is requested due to the current nesting conditions of the piping plover and tern nests. These are federally and state protected birds and this closing is required to protect the species.

Expect enforcement of this by local police.

Port Jefferson is the new destination. There is a good anchorage area and many available moorings.

For those who’d like to race, the following changes the Sailing Instructions:

The race will be a pursuit race and the first start will be at 1315. There will be no RC on station. Racers should decide which course to sail in advance and take their own times at the finish.
