HED/ADMIN RX TRAINING and
SELF-PACED COMPUTER BASED LEARNING
Horizon Expert Documentation (HED) and Admin Rx are designed for nurses who work on inpatient and Rehab units. Nurses working in the Peri-Op areas (ENDO, Day Surgery, PACU, OR)and ED are exempt from this training. It includes information on electronic nursing documentation, medication and intravenous fluid administration. HED training provides an overview on the nursing flowsheet, how to move, modify, and clear results, create patient assignments for nurses and physicians, and print patient reports. Admin Rx reviews the seven rights of medication administration, allows the participant to apply those principles and practice scanning bar coded medications, IV infusions, and the process to co-sign high alert medications. In addition to the classroom session, the participant will complete supplemental, self-paced, computer based learning modules.

STAR COMPUTER TRAINING
This class is designed for nurses and unit secretaries who work on inpatient and Rehab units and utilize the STAR system to transfer and discharge patients as well as order patient supplies through Central Supply. The class highlights the multi-step communication process to order isolation supplies, navigate the Central Supply catalog, and send a message to request special order supplies. Peri-Op areas (ENDO, Day Surgery, OR, PACU) and ED nurses are EXEMPT from this training.

BASIC RHYTHM RECOGNITION (BRR)
This course provides the basic knowledge necessary to understand single lead ECG rhythm interpretation using a systematic approach to pattern recognition. Items to be covered in the course include: electrophysiology of the cardiac conduction system, ECG wave identification and measurements, and arrhythmia identification that stem from impulses of the sinus, atrial, junctional, and ventricular portions of the heart
Target Audience:RN’s, LPN’s and allied healthcare professionals who care for
patients that require ECG cardiac monitoring

CARDIAC MEDICATIONS IN EMERGENCY CARE
This course is designed to discuss the effects/side effects of the medications used in cardiac arrest, tachycardia and bradycardia algorithms. Included would be the ACLS algorithms, the medications used, why the medications are used and the pathophysiology behind the use of each medication to give the user a more comprehensive understanding of the reasoning behind the administration. Extremely valuable for the first time ACLS provider.

ADMINISTERING TITRATING IV MEDICATIONS
WITH CONFIDENCE
This class focuses on enhancing critical care nurses’ability to safely, accurately, and appropriately deliver continuous titrating inotropic, vasoactive, and sedative intravenous medications in the critical care setting. Through meaningful discussion and analysis of the most commonly used inotropic, vasoactive, and sedative medications at Bayhealth,participants will gain confidence in their ability to manage critical care patients on these medications. Indications for use, drug mechanism of action, nursing considerations, safe titration practices, and appropriate monitoring will also be discussed in this course.

DIABETES UPDATE
Diabetes management in the hospital setting presents special challenges for nursing staff. A patient’s blood glucose levels can be negatively impacted by the stress of illness and must be taken into consideration, as well as the admitting diagnosis. Controlling blood glucose levels during the hospital stay can positively impact the healing process and lead to better outcomes for the patient. This course includes the following topics:

PEDIATRIC ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (PALS)
PALS is an American Heart Association course designed to prepare RN’s, Nurse Practitioners, paramedics, physicians and physician’s assistants in pediatric emergencies. Main objectives of this course are to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently evaluate and effectively manage seriously ill infants and children. The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of the fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association.

This course is designed to assist the healthcare provider create a poster abstract for submission to a professional organization and develop the abstract into a printed poster, as well as present the poster at a professional conference. Professional Development Courses
These classes will expose the learner to a wide variety of opportunities to acquire approaches and behaviors to develop skills to better address real-work live scenarios. Scenarios will include examples of interactions with staff, patients, coworkers, physicians and other healthcare providers.
Many of the topics are offered in a hybrid course format. This is a two-part course; Part 1 is completed online via HealthStream prior to attending Part 2, which is completed in the classroom. Both Part 1 and Part 2 must be completed to receive a certificate of completion. The classroom component is a critical portion of these courses allowing participants to practice the verbal and motor activities that reinforce the learner’s ability to hardwire specific skills for the workplace.
