Course Description:
The purpose of this class is to help students have a successful school year by developing lifelong organizational skills and study habits. Students will also be afforded time each class period to prepare and work on assignments for other courses.
Performance Standards:
Lesson objective related.
Student Responsibilities:
Students are expected to come to class prepared, participate in all aspects as requested and respect their peers throughout the class period. Students are also expected to bring assignments from their core and elective courses to work on each class period. Finally, students are expected to respect teacher, directives and property located in the classroom.
Grading:
As the class will be a combination of daily reinforcement of organization skills, mini lessons in study skills and daily work from other classes, students will be graded in the following manner:
Summative Assessments 50%
Classwork
(includes unit assignments)
Independent Study Monitoring
(includes monitoring of Independent work time)
Notebook
(includes monitoring of notebooks/binder checks, use of calendars, organizational skills)
Formative Assessments 30%
(mini projects, test)
Final Exam/Project 20%
**All missed study skills assignments/assessments will be made up in class at student’s first available independent work time allowance.
Grading Scale
Grades shall be calculated on assignments, tests, and/or projects in the following method:
A = 90 to 100 B = 80 to 89
C = 71 to 79
D = 70
F = Below 70
Attendance/Tardy policy:
Students are expected to report to class on time and attend class regularly. School policies on attendance and tardiness will be followed and enforced.

Teacher Expectation
Please review the following and request clarification for any statements that you have difficulty understanding:
BE ON TIME
- I expect all students to arrive to class on time and prepared; arrive prior to the final bell and with all essential items (pens/pencils, paper, etc.).
BE PREPARED
- I expect all students to bring with them work from their other classes that we can work on during class. If a student does not have work to complete then the student is expected to give me information about areas that he/she is struggling with so that work can be assigned.
BE RESPECTFUL
- I expect students to treat each other, myself and the room in a respectful manner. No inappropriate comments toward a student or me will be tolerated, and students will not cause any damage to property.
BE WILLING TO PARTICIPATE
- I expect students to participate daily in all projects, activities and classwork as
assigned.
BE AWARE OF SCHOOL RULES AND POLICIES
- I expect students to follow rules and policies of New Manchester High School.
