Grand Canyon Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution presents the

2016-2017 Junior American Citizen Contest

Theme:Our National Parks: 100 Years of Service to America

The JAC contest promotes good citizenship among our youth. It can easily be incorporated into an education curriculum and offers opportunities for public recognition of today’s young people—the future leaders of our country. The contests are in art, creative expression, and community service for pre-K through grade 12.

Kids pre-K-12th grades should enter!Pre-K – 12th grade kids can enter the banner category only as a group of 3 or more. 1st-12th graders can do a group (3-5 kids) or individual community service project, and/or enter individual entries of a poster, stamp or photographic essay, write a poem or short story all related to the theme ‘Our National Parks: 100 Years of Service to America’. Pre-K and Kindergarten may only participate in the community service contest as a group (3-5 kids) and the banner contest as a group (3 or more kids). Kids are encouraged to enter in more than 1 category. Awards may include local publicity, invitation to an awards ceremony, a certificate and gift card/monetary prize.

The contest is open to students in public, private, parochial, and sanctioned home schools of any ability. Participation is open to students in a classroom teacher or parent administered, youth groups such as scout troops and service organizations.

For the entry, children should think of people, events, customs, or traditions that influence America related to this year’s theme. Consider what will keep America the great country it is today. Be creative and have fun!

Entries are judged by grade so that every child may enter the contest regardless of ability. All entries must be mailed, picked up or delivered to Committee Chairman by December 15, 2016.
