  • Continue work on college essays
  • Plan on-campus college visits
  • 10/1 Filing period for Cal State applications begins. In order to ensure admission into the impacted campuses and/or majors of the CSU system, we recommend applying to all CSU campuses in October.
  • 10/1 CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE is available online
  • SAT Subject test administered
  • ACT administered
  • Cal Grant GPA Verification form for all seniors will be sent electronically by La Salle
  • File FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1
  • Students will be able to submit a FAFSA® earlier.Students will be able to file a 2017–18 FAFSA as early as Oct. 1, 2016, rather than beginning on Jan. 1, 2017.

Request teacher and counselor letter of recommendations–please use forms provided by counseling department

Continue working on applications
Applications and Letters of Recommendation. Take your time when filling out applications.It is an enormous amount of electronic filing/ paperwork, so set aside serious time in order to do the job properly. Applications should be neat and accurate. All private colleges require a letter (or two) of recommendation. Prepare your request for teachers well in advance, three (3) weeks minimum. Your College Counselor writes all Secondary School Reports (SSR).

November

  • Most Early Action and Early Decision application deadlines are this month
  • 11/1 – 11/30: Filing period for UC applications. This filing period is absolutely inflexible.

  • While SAT Subject Tests are not required, some campuses recommend that freshman applicants interested in competitive majors take the tests to demonstrate subject proficiency. Check requirements here:

January

  • Mid-year reports will be sent by your College Counselor
  • Check for scholarships (beware of deadlines)

February

  • Check that colleges have received all materials: application, test scores and financial aid form
  • Carefully read all information from colleges and submit any additional information they may request
  • Continue to check for scholarships
  • Register for AP exams

March

  • UC decisions will be e-mailed/ postal mailed this month
  • If colleges request additional information, send it to them immediately
  • Register for UC and CSU placement tests

April

  • Check e-mail and postal mail for college admission decisions
  • Financial aid offers will begin to arrive—check your postal mail and on-line portals
  • If you are on a wait list, write a letter of sincere interest and send any supporting material you can
  • Make a final decision, and mail the enrollment form and deposit check to the school you select before May 1 (the enrollment deadline for most schools).

May

  • Write “thanks, but no thanks” letter to colleges you will not attend
  • Write a thank you note and share your college news with teachers who wrote your letters of recommendations

June

  • Confirm college with your College Counselor for final transcript mailing
  • Make sure you have responded to all requests by your college
