2016-17 Unified Middle School Dress Code Policy

Rutland Middle School

Students may wear the following:

PANTS OR SKIRTS:

  • Plain khaki, black or navy pants, or plain khaki, black or navy skirts.
  • Jeans, shorts and cargo pants are not allowed. However, jeans and/or shorts are permitted

on days designated by the principal.

  • Pants must be of appropriate size, not flare legged, worn as designed and of ankle length. Pants designed to be worn below the top of the hip bone are not allowed.
  • Pants MUST have belt loops and MUST be worn with a belt. Pants MUST NOT be tucked into shoes or socks. Pants with elastic waist and ankle bands are not allowed.
  • Skirts must be no shorter than two (2) inches above the knee and cannot have any slits/openings.

SHIRTS:

  • Plain white or school color polo shirt and may be long sleeve or short sleeve.
  • School t-shirts, sweatshirts or plain white or school colored t-shirts, sweatshirts, and sweaters. (Black shirts and colored undershirts are not allowed.)
  • All shirts must be of appropriate size and tucked in.
  • Plain white undershirts or turtlenecks underneath polo shirts, school t-shirts, sweatshirts and sweaters are permissible. (Undershirts worn as shirts are not allowed.)

SHOES and SOCKS:

  • All shoes must have closed toes and heels.
  • Tennis shoes with properly sized and secured shoe laces that match one another.
  • Soft soled shoes (no heels allowed).
  • Plain white, black or school color socks with shoes.
  • Neon-colored shoes, socks, and shoe laces are prohibited. Traces of such colors are also prohibited.

JEWELRY:

  • Gold or Silver Jewelry - Standard-sized Only
  • Dog tags & multiple bracelets are not allowed; pendants earrings must be smaller than a quarter.
  • Head bands need to be black, brown, or school colors. Bows must be school colors. No other hair accessories are permitted.
  • Only ear piercings are allowed.

BELTS:

  • Plain brown, black, green, white, orange, or khaki belts with buckles no wider than the belt (belts/buckles can have no lettering, pictures or sayings).

**Each school shall communicate to parents the requirements for jackets/outer garments. Any item prohibited in the Bibb County Board of Education Code of Conduct or Dress Code is not allowed, to include “hoodies.” All other items, which in the judgment of the principal (designee), disrupt or distract from the teaching and learning process will not be permitted.

Dress Code for PE Classes

Students who take PE are allowed to change their clothes when they report to the gym for class. Students may bring t-shirts and shorts to change into for PE. The t-shirts must be school t-shirts or plain t-shirts. There can be no writing or pictures on the t-shirts unless it is a school related t-shirt. The shorts must follow the Bibb County Code of Conduct and can be no shorter than 2 inches above the students' knee. The shorts do not have to be khaki, black, or navy blue, but they must be plain with no words or pictures. Students should wear tennis shoes to PE classes.

**Special Note: Students are expected to be in the unified dress code at all times during the school day and at all school sponsored activities such as field trips and dances unless otherwise stated by the administration. Book bags must be clear or mesh and purses must be maintained in lockers.
