2015North West Marathon

Registrations:Registration will be taken from 9.00 am to 10.00 am at the Ulverstone Surf Life Saving Club prior to moving to either the Devonport (Easterly Conditions) or Penguin (Westerly Conditions) depending on weather conditions.

Event categories may change depending on entry numbers.

***ALL COMPETITORS MUST REGISTER IN THEIR RESPECTIVE EVENTS OR WILL NOT BE ALLOCATED A COMPETITION NUMBER***

Entry Fees:Entry fees are to be paid at the time of registration.

Entry Fee - $25 per competitor

Marshaling & Briefing:The Competitor and Officials briefing will take place at the nominated beach which will be advised at registering. All competitors and Officials MUST be present for the briefing. Marshaling for the race will take place at 10.30 am.

Race Start Time:Racing will commence from 11.00 am sharp. Discipline start times will be staggered taking into account craft and number of entries and will be determined by the Race Referee.

Course:

The course will cover approximately 13km to 15km depending on the course. The event will be conducted under strict water safety guidelines, in accordance to the SLSA Competition Manual and Safer Surf Club’s Manual Guidelines.

Option 1 - Westerly Conditions : Start Penguin SLSC → Midway Point → Ulverstone SLSC

Option 2 - Easterly Conditions: Start Devonport SLSC → Ulverstone SLSC

Dangerous Conditions: Inglis River or Burnie Port

Those clubs that have competitors participating in this year’s Endurance Series are asked to provide an IRB for water safety.

Entry Requirements

The North West Marathon is open to Surf Ski’s, Surf Boats, Outriggers and Ocean Ski’s.

All SLST members wishing to compete on or in spec craft, i.e. Surf Ski’s or Surf Boats must comply with the following requirements;

  • Must be a current financial member of a Surf Life Saving Club
  • Surf Boat competitors must have completed 400 metre swim as a minimum and have been signed off by an accredited assessor and one member of the team must be a Bronze Medallion holder
  • U17 or U19 competitors wishing to compete on Ocean Skis, must compete in the Open category
  • Must wear a lifejacket minimum of a 50 newton. This does not apply to Surf Boats

Those members not able to comply with all the above requirements may still enter under the rules of entry applying to the general public. Those in part being;

  • May only enter in the open Male or Female Ocean/ Surf Ski category
  • Must wear a lifejacket (minimum of a 50 newton)
  • Must complete an Event Indemnity Form (Available Online)
  • Must be a minimum of 15 years of age

All competitors must adhere to MaST Legislation with regards to the use of a tethering device and flare.

Race Conclusion

At the conclusion of the race, presentations will be held at Ulverstone SLSC along with food, and refreshments.
