2015 Halo Awards Information
Eligible Students
Any student who participated in Father of the Bride or Urinetown is eligible to attend. That includes both cast and crew members.
Nominations
Nominations will be announced some time after May 20. Once the nominations are announced, they will be shared with the club.
Halo Rehearsals of “Run Freedom Run”
The formal rehearsal will take place on Monday, May 11. The time is still to be determined. A bus will take everyone from SHS to the Palace Theater in Waterbury for the rehearsal and bring everyone back to SHS when rehearsal is done.
There will be an after-school rehearsal on Friday, May 8, to refresh the choreography in everyone’s mind (or teach any cast member who was not previously in “Run Freedom Run”).
Halo Awards
The awards will take place on Tuesday, May 26, at the Palace Theater in Waterbury. If they hold with tradition, the ceremony will begin at 6:00 PM. Students should arrive between 5:30 and 6:00.
All tickets (for students, staff, family, and friends) are $20 each.
· Students may order tickets through the Drama Club (all orders must be placed to Mr. Lindblom before the end of the day on May 1).
· Family and friends have to call the Seven Angels box office at 203-757-4676.
· There are no guarantees that there will be any tickets at the door.
There will be no transportation provided to the awards ceremony. Every student is responsible for arranging his/her own transportation to and from the event.
Schedule
Assuming the event follows the pattern of last year, the night will go as follows:
· Arrive at the theatre between 5:30 and 6:00 PM (students enter through the Weather Lobby entrance; parents/friends enter through the Box Office entrance).
· There will be a reception in the lobby from 6:00 until 6:30.
· We will be seated in the theatre between 6:30 and 7:00.
· The ceremony will feature two “acts” with a 20-minute intermission between.
· The projected end time is 10:00 PM. It may run later than that.
Dress Code
Dress code for the ceremony is semi-formal. Boys should wear dress pants and a button-down shirt; a tie is optional; a suit is optional. Girls should dress appropriately (e.g. a skirt/blouse combination, a blouse/slacks combination, or a tasteful dress). Everyone should wear comfortable shoes; we will be doing a significant amount of standing and walking.
Costumes
For our performance of “Run Freedom Run”, students should wear what they wore during the show. If those outfits are no longer available, any comparable outfit will do. All costumes must be brought in to Mr. Lindblom before the end of the day on May 26. Mr. Lindblom will deliver them to the theater prior to the start of the ceremony.
Behavior
We are representing SHS. As such, you must be in full compliance with all school/club rules. Please be punctual and polite. During the ceremony, you should be positive and encouraging to all nominated schools/students. Please refrain from boisterous or negative behavior. We should display grace and humility whether we win or lose. Any misconduct will result in your removal from the theatre (including the performance), and large-scale misconduct will result in our withdrawal from future Halo competitions. Our behavior last year was excellent; we should strive to duplicate that level of decorum.
If We Win…
Any nominated student who wins an award is encouraged to go up on stage to accept the award. Speeches are not part of the acceptance process.
Questions/Concerns
