Audience

Adult and pediatric registered nurses new to oncology practice or experienced RNs looking for a refresher course

Course Content

This program is based on the most current versions of a number of publications and guidelines available from the Oncology Nursing Society, including:

  • Access Device Guidelines: Recommendations for Nursing Practice and Education
  • Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs
  • Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Guidelines and Recommendations for Practice

Purpose

To provide nurses with the knowledge needed to administer chemotherapy and manage side effects

University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Wisconsin Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

*The Practicum is held in a classroom & consists of a written exam and hands-on, simulated material on safe handling/PPE and administration.

This day will begin at 0900 and end around 1500.

General Information

Course Location

All oncology nursing courses are held at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, 600 Highland Avenue, Madison, Wisconsin

Parking

Participants are able to park in the UW Hospital and Clinic’s parking ramp. The cost for parking is included in a full tuitionpaid registration fee.

Educational Materials

Handouts, binders, folders, books and other supplies are covered by the registration fee.

Meals

Lunch is not provided.

Participant Comfort

Maintaining a temperature that is ideal for all participants can be difficult; we recommend bringing a sweater or jacket to wear during the program.

Confirmation, Registration and Cancellation Policy

A letter of confirmation will be sent upon receipt of payment and completed registration form for those registrations received at least 10 days prior to the selected program.

Cancellations initiated by the participant must be received by the UWHC Education and Development for Nursing and Patient Care Services within 10 business days of the scheduled program or the participant will be assessed a $25 cancellation fee, which will be subtracted from the total cost of the program.
