2015 Sugar River Raiders Team Rules
Attendance:
* 100% attendance is required.
* Absences are very rarely excused. For each unexcused absence, a minimum 1/2 of a competition is missed.
* Work is not excused...please communicate with me if you have a work schedule to see if we can work something out
* School related functions are excused. If you are gone for an extended period of time others may move ahead of you.
This is not a punishment; it is the nature of athletics.
· Make every effort to schedule any appointment to not conflict with practice or competition.
· Playing on other sports (AAU, Club) during our season is not prohibited, however, make smart decisions, and understand that if you are on a school sport, it should be the priority, and you have made a commitment that should be honored. Playing soccer on a club team during the HS season, is not permitted by WIAA.
Practice:
-----First Official Day of Practice Boys 2014 – August 10th, 4:00 PM – Belleville HS East Fields
· *All players must have a physical on file. A physical is good for two years. The 2nd year of the physical, all players are required to have an alternate year card.
· All players need to bring soccer cleats, shin guards, socks, water bottle, and a positive attitude.
· Players are expected to come to tryouts FIT and ready to play. Our season starts quickly and we cannot afford to get players in shape, they need to prepare in the off-season.
· Practices during the season will be held from 4:00-5:30pm, unless otherwise noted. New Glarus provides transportation to and from Belleville.
· Teams may have some Spaghetti dinners, this is considered a “practice,” players are required to be at these functions unless they clear it with their coach ahead of time.
Paperwork:
Belleville Students must have all fees (towel) paid, New Glarus need their sport fee paid, and all players must have WIAA cards on file. Not having these forms will result in no practice (unexcused).
A Concussion screening and form must also be completed to participate.
· Physicals are very hard to schedule once the practice starts, make sure you take care of that before practice begins.
Athletic Code:
Players and a parent must attend a Code of Conduct Meeting with their respective Athletic Director.
All Players are responsible for abiding by the Athletic code. Any question of violation will be confronted immediately. A coach may call a parent meeting with the athletic director present, to discuss further action.
Equipment:
Any equipment not returned at the end of the year will result in failure to receive post-season awards, a fine of a flat 75.00 fee for replacement. Players must wear mandatory soccer attire to all practices, no boxer shorts will be allowed, practice shirts may be purchased from Belleville Embroidery, black shorts/black pants suffice. When cold, Raider sweatshirts, or jackets may be worn. Failure to have gear will result in an unexcused absence. Players need to provide for themselves, a pair of Black soccer socks and white socks, always have a pair of black soccer shorts on hand, shin guards with the NSCOAA stamp, and outdoor soccer cleats. Practices require the players to have on hand both indoor and outdoor gear; all season to account for bad weather. Always bring your own water provisions!
*Uniforms should be washed at home in cold water and if tumble-dried, only on very low. All players are responsible for equipment and general care.
· Stadium jackets will be provided to Varsity players for the season on loan. A $100 check will be held to the end of the season and then returned when the jacket is returned.
· On game days, players are required to wear some form of Raider soccer apparel, warm-up, t-shirt, etc...
Scholastic Expectations:
All players must maintain a credible GPA. It is the student’s responsibility to notify the coach of any extra consideration for scholastic needs.
Attitude:
When we talk about attitude, we are expecting players to be respectful of both coaches and teammates, players need to resist the temptation to undermine each-other or demonstrate insubordinate attitudes towards coaches and officials, players should seek to understand the tactical and technical direction that the coach is teaching the team.
It's important to our staff that the players disregard school social groups when they are on the soccer field. Basic truths need to be understood: 1. Everyone is still learning, 2. It takes mistakes for people to learn how to make corrections and become better. 3. Everyone has made mistakes before and is not a perfect soccer player. Attitude is the number one priority when it comes to building a strong chemistry.
Player Expectations:
· Compliance with the athletic code.
· Closely attending to all instruction
· Treat opponents, teammates, and referees with respect!
· Bring necessary equipment to practice: Balls, shin guards, cleats, etc....
· The teams will have behavior and attendance rules - violations will be dealt with individually by the coach. Players in violation of these rules may face playing time penalties.
· For any infraction that involves a poor choice in attitude or disrespect toward a teammate or coach, a coach can decide to issue a warning, upon second warning the Varsity player will be sent to JV for a week, possibly longer at the coaches discretion. Disrespect will not be tolerated.
Travel and Bus Behavior:
· When traveling, leave class at the assigned time.
· You are representing your school, your Community, and the Raider Soccer Program when we travel. Conduct yourself accordingly.
· Maintain a clean environment, and respect our bus drivers!
· Players will ride to matches and home from matches with the team. Excused from this will be at the discretion of the coach. Must be very important to not ride with the team. Any absences or alteration of transportation to events are to be submitted in writing to the Athletic director as well as the coach. The only exceptions that are made will be due to medical emergencies.
o New Glarus students must have a form on file
o Belleville students must turn in a completed form signed by both the Athletic Director and parent 24 hours before the event
Team Selection:
· Varsity is wide open, grade level does not come into consideration. We take into account skill, tactics, speed, endurance, attitude, and chemistry.
· Tryouts will be conducted during the first week of practice (August 10th-14th)
· Teams will be selected by the coaching staff. The coaches will select teams that will represent your school and accomplish the goals that have been set for the program. Fitness, Attitude, Playing ability, and commitment will be considered. This makes for a highly competitive environment.
· Grades, suspensions, & attitude could factor into the selection process.
· The varsity roster will range from 16-22 players. The JV roster will range from 14-22 players. Each JV boy will have the opportunity to play generally 10 games or more. Injury, suspension, or vacations may reduce these opportunities.
Playing Time:
· Varsity - Playing time is determined by the head coach. The coach will make all decisions regarding playing time. If a player is not satisfied with playing time, they should communicate with the coach. Parents should only be involved in this discussion as a last resort. Playing time and expectations will be communicated to the players.
· Junior Varsity - These levels are looked as developmental by the coaching staff. Every attempt will be given to get all players into the game and close to equal playing time. Time will be based on practice performance, attitude, and ability. It will also be done in a manner that keeps the game competitive.
Letter winner Requirements:
A Varsity Letter will be awarded to all boys that have played in at least half of our Varsity games. Attendance in practice WILL play in as a factor. If you play all 4 years, regardless of team, and are in good standing, you will earn a Letter.
Miscellaneous:
· There will be an end of the year banquet. It is for all players and parents, please put it on your schedule.
· If you have a concern with a coach, talk with the coach directly first. If you still have a concern after you meet with the coach, call Coach Ziehr and set up a face to face meeting. Playing time is based on the needs of the team not the player. Some players may not get much playing time during a competitive season. Your coach can let you know the areas of improvement for the player. Playing time, however, is determined by the coach, based on that coach's assessment of the match conditions and the player's current level of play.
· There is a chain of command in the Raider Soccer Program. At all times the player needs to address his coach with any concerns. If a player has any problems, issues, or concerns, they must follow the chain of command, when dealing with problems. 1st: Player, 2nd Coach, 3rd Head Coach (can be with parent), 4th AD (can be with parent), 5th HS Principal (can be with parent), 6th School Administrator (Can be with parent).
Summary:
It is important to be clear: this sport requires players to be athletes. We will work VERY hard; it will be VERY difficult for boys that are not in shape. Coaches will make every effort to balance the well being of the players, the school, the team, as well as the future of the program. The Varsity will focus on being the best team our schools can field. We will focus on developing people, players, and lastly we are focused on winning a championship.
