2015-2016 EHS LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
The booklet describes local scholarship opportunities available to EscondidoHigh School seniors. They are usually specifically for students in the county of San Diego. Some of the scholarships are uniquely for students in our district. The list is based on last year’s scholarships, therefore, some may not be offered this year or the criteria and values may have changed. The scholarships have been divided into two groups. Review them carefully and use the provided Scholarship Selection Sheet (enclosed form), and list the scholarships, which are appropriate for you.
Group I Scholarships
You are to prepare one standard scholarship packet, which I will duplicate. This packet will include information as outlined on the following page.
Packet Items to be turned in to Mrs. Barcoma by Feb. 9, 2016:
1) Return the scholarship selection sheet
2) One standard scholarship packet
3) One anonymous packet (photocopy of your standard packet)
Note that your name is to be excluded from several pages. Your packet will be assigned a number for identification. If you do not have all the materials by
Feb. 9,2016 you may submit them when complete just note that you may miss some scholarship deadlines. Incomplete packets will not be accepted.
Group II Scholarships
The Group II scholarships have their own application or require some extra information. See Mrs. Barcoma for these applications. These scholarships have various due dates, ranging from March 2-June 30. Group II applications can be picked up on or after Feb. 9, 2016.
SENIOR AWARDS/COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM DESIGN REMINDER
Any senior interested should submit a program design to Mrs. Barcoma on
April 4,2016, no later than 2:45 pm. The winner will be recognized at Senior Awards Night on May 12, 2016.
GROUP I SCHOLARSHIPS
CONTENTS OF THE STANDARD SCHOLARSHIP PACKET
Please prepare a scholarship packet according to the following instructions:
1.Transcript may be obtained in the counseling office.
2.An anonymous letter addressed to The Scholarship Committee. This should be typed, single-spaced, and no longer that two pages. This letter is your autobiographical essay and should include the following:
a.Your occupational or career choice and reasons for that choice.
b.Your choice of school/college and reason.
c.What you estimate your expenses to be for one year.
d.Amount of money you can expect from other sources, such as summer employment, parents, savings, gifts, college job, etc.
e.Occupation of parents and number of children in the family.
f.You may indicate your parents income or unusual expenses, since many scholarships for which you are applying may have “need” as one of the
requirements.
g.Add any other information about yourself or your plans that might help make your application stand out from others.
h.DO NOT SIGN YOUR NAME TO THE LETTER.
3.Activities Sheet: On the enclosed form/template, list all school and community activities in which you have participated in grades 9-12.
4.Threeletters of recommendation from school or community personnel.
5.Financial Analysis Statement. Use enclosed form/template.
6. Photocopy one extra copy of each page of the standard packet. The second copy should be made anonymous by removing your name from the transcript, letters of recommendation and financial statement (a black marking pen or white out may be used).
