A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE CHIEF CHARLES E. MCNAIR, DIRECTOR OF THE CAYCE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, TO EXTEND DEEP APPRECIATION FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE, AND TO OFFER BEST WISHES FOR A SATISFYING AND REWARDING RETIREMENT.

Whereas, after a long and distinguished career in law enforcement, Chief Charles E. McNair will retire from the Cayce Department of Public Safety on May 1, 2016; and

Whereas, born and raised in Cayce, Chief McNair joined the Cayce Fire Department in 1974. He was transferred to the Cayce Police Department as a dispatcher and began his law enforcement career as a Cayce police officer in 1976; and

Whereas, Chief McNair joined the South Carolina Highway Patrol in 1977 and served there for seventeen years. He was the first state trooper in South Carolina to be assigned to full time drug interdiction. Under his skillful leadership, the drug program expanded and is presently known as the ACE Team; and

Whereas, in 1993 Chief McNair joined the State Law Enforcement Division and was assigned to the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration. In this position, he supervised a federal task force consisting of local, state, and federal drug agents and was responsible for the largest cocaine seizure and for seizure of the largest indoor marijuana growing operation in South Carolina history; and

Whereas, in June 2000, Chief McNair accepted the position of director of the Cayce Department of Public Safety. He has faithfully served the department since that time; and

Whereas, throughout his illustrious career, Chief McNair has received many awards. He has served as past president of the South Carolina Police Chiefs Association, as vice president of the South Carolina Troopers Association, and on many other boards and commissions; and

Whereas, Chief McNair attends Kittiwake Baptist Church where he serves as chairman of the deacons. He is married to Cheryl Caudle McNair and has two daughters, one of whom is now with the Lord, two granddaughters, and one great granddaughter; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is grateful for the legacy of consistent commitment and leadership Chief McNair has bestowed on the citizens of South Carolina, and the members take great pleasure in wishing him all the best as he enters a much-deserved retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Chief Charles E. McNair, Director of the Cayce Department of Public Safety, on the occasion of his retirement, extend deep appreciation for his many years of service, and offer best wishes for a satisfying and rewarding retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chief Charles E. McNair.
