A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE MRS. ANNETTE D. MCCOLLUM UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO EXTEND DEEP APPRECIATION FOR HER MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE RICHLAND COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION, AND TO OFFER BEST WISHES FOR A SATISFYING AND REWARDING RETIREMENT.
Whereas, after more than fortyfour years of dedicated service to the Richland County Legislative Delegation, Mrs. Annette McCollum will retire on April 8, 2016; and
Whereas, born in Colleton County, Mrs. McCollum was raised by a family of educators, which eventually led to her decision to become a school teacher; and
Whereas, after attending Colleton County schools, St. Augustine’s College, and graduating from Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina, Mrs. McCollum taught school in New York and South Carolina; and
Whereas, after she returned to South Carolina, she worked as a secretary at the Columbia Jewish Center, booked guests for Bill Benton, and was radio traffic manager for advertising at WIS Radio; and
Whereas, Mrs. McCollum worked for the Richland County Legislative Delegation for more than fortyfour years, beginning in September,1971. In her time there, she served as a secretary, an executive secretary, an administrative assistant, and a special projects coordinator. She worked for a total of seventyeight Senate and House members; and
Whereas, in her free time, Mrs. McCollum likes to follow politics, sew, make ceramics, paint with oil and water color, and make flower arrangements. She is also actively involved in her church; and
Whereas, Mrs. McCollum has lived in Richland County for fortyseven years. She was married to the late Ben J. McCollum, Jr. for almost thirty years and she is the proud parent of four grown children; Captain Ben J. McCollum III, Dr. Adrian T. McCollum, Aneka M. McCollum, and Alphonso W. McCollum; one daughterinlaw, Koren McCollum; and three granddaughters, Courtney, Alexis and Ashley; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate are grateful for the legacy of consistent commitment and fine leadership Mrs. McCollum has bestowed on the Richland County Legislative Delegation, and take great pleasure in wishing her all the best as she enters a muchdeserved retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Mrs. Annette D. McCollum upon the occasion of her retirement, extend deep appreciation for her many years of service to the Richland County Legislative Delegation, and offer best wishes for a satisfying and rewarding retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Annette D. McCollum.
