RACE 1 –MAGIC MILLIONS RACE NIGHT 17TH FEBRUARY MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE–1600 METRES

Mensa Magic was declared a late scratching at 7.40 am acting on veterinary advice as it has a boil on its girth.

Gwemrae was slow to begin (1L).

Minna Lass and Aussie Alice both jumped away awkwardly.

At the start Princess Bombora and Lemon Grove were tightened for room between Zemiro which shifted out and The Stockman which shifted in.

Passing the 1400 metres Becerikli which was over racing was tightened for room by She’s Rosie which shifted in when not quite clear. Georgie Catania was notified to ensure she is clear of other runners in similar circumstances.

Victor Wong rider of Becerikli explained that the gelding over-raced near the 1000 metres resulting in him clipping the heels of She’s Rosie. Mercyful Fate and Gwemrae which were following were hampered as a result.

Georgie Catania rider of She’s Rosie explained that she rode the filly more forward tonight as in her view there was little pace early and she then intended to take advantage of this situation.

Anthony Darmanin rider of Lemon Grove was found guilty of a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding, the particulars being that near the 1400 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Princess Bombora resulting in that mare being restrained. Anthony Darmanin’s licence to ride in races was suspended for one (1) Tasmanian race meeting to commence at midnight 29 November 2015 and expire at midnight 2 December 2015.

Anthony Darmanin rider of Lemon Grove which was eased down from the 150 metres explained that the mare felt sore. Trainer Dylan Clark advised that the mare had pulled up short in its action and connections will evaluate the immediate racing future of Lemon Grove. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate must be submitted prior to Lemon Grove racing again.

Victor Wong rider of Becerikli pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding, the particulars being that approaching the 100 metres he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of Aussie Alice resulting in that filly being checked and losing its position. Stewards deemed the interference and carelessness to be of a medium level. Victor Wong’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 2 Tasmanian race meetings commencing at midnight 29th November2015and expiring at midnight 9th December 2015.

She’s Rosie underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the filly had been galloped on the near side hind.

RACE 2 – LAUNCESTON CUP DAY CORPORATE MARQUEE 3YO MAIDEN PLATE- 1200 METRES

Gee Gee Sun Valley was not shown in the race book as wearing blinkers when it is a blinkered horse. Co-trainers Leon, Dean & Trent Wells were reprimanded under LR 7.2 for an incomplete stable return.

On arriving at the barrier Impulsive Lager and One Forda Goodguys had to be re-saddled.

Impulsive Lager and Mac ‘N’ Muhcu were slow to begin (1L).

Lion Speed jumped outwards and contacted Genijune resulting in Sherry Barr becoming unbalanced.

Gee Gee Black Buty jumped out at the start and took Frost out onto Saint’s Quest which was tightened and lost ground between that gelding and One Forda Goodguys.

Sherry Barr rider of Genijune was found guilty of a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding, the particulars being that approaching the 1000 metres she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Gee Gee Sun Valley resulting in that filly being checked. Stewards deemed the interference and carelessness to be of a low level. Sherry Barr’s licence to ride in races was suspended for one (1) Tasmanian race meetings commencing at midnight 2nd December 2015 and expiring at midnight 9th December 2015.

Approaching the 800 metres Mac ‘N’ Muhcu checked off the heels of Full Of Promises.

Near the 800 metres Into The Night got its head up when over racing.

Passing the 800 metres One Forda Goodguys steadied resulting in Full Of Promises improving up onto the heels that gelding and being checked. Mac’n”Muhcu which was following was also checked and shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of Full Of Promises.

In the home straight Genijune raced greenly and near the 150 metres shifted in and struck the running rail and became unbalanced. The filly was then eased down over the concluding stages.

Passing the 200 metres Lion Speed shifted out when under pressure and brushed Frost which shifted in due to Anthony Darmanin rider of the gelding losing the use of his off side rein for a short distance. The tightening was aggravated due to Full Of Promises (R Clark) shifting in under pressure. Raquel Clark was notified that she would be expected to straighten her mounts sooner than she did on this occasion.

RACE 3 – OAKS DAY 21ST FEBRUARY 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE- 1200 METRES

Mount Nevis and Poacher’s Son were both shown in the race book as not wearing blinkers, when both are blinkered horses. Trainers Marion Dalco and Damien Whelan were both reprimanded under LR 7.2 for incomplete stable returns.

Near the 1000 metres Wonzzee which was racing ungenerously got its head up when being restrained to allow Bideford (NZ) to cross. During this incident Viva La Verve which was racing to the inside of Wonzzee held its line resulting in both that mare and Wonzzee making contact and becoming unbalanced. Apprentice Kyle Maskiell (Bideford (NZ))was advised to ensure he is fully clear before crossing in future.

Shortly after this, Wonzzee continued to over-race for some distance.

Gee Gees Tell All raced wide throughout.

As Daniel Ganderton rider of the third placegetter Gee Gees Tell All was visibly ill and unable to weigh in, Stewards did not disqualify the gelding as in their opinion the correct weight had been carried. Daniel Ganderton was examined by the on-course ambulance officers and found to be suffering from possible dehydration and stood down for the remainder of the meeting. Daniel Ganderton was advised that he must submit a medical certificate prior to riding again.

Kelvin Sanderson rider of Criollo reported that prior to the starter releasing the field, the mare lunged forward several times resulting in it being slightly slow to begin.

On jumping away Gee Gee Black Fury was tightened for room between Aventador which shifted in and Geegees Baritone which was taken out by Able Ken.
