GENERAL

Stewards enquired into the tactics adopted by Driver Paul Ashwood (CALL THE MARSHALL) in race 5 at Tasmanian Pacing Club Sunday 18 January 2015. Mr Ashwood explained that the gelding had won a number of races when in his care whilst leading. At the geldings previous start when it drew the outside of the front row in the heat of the Hobart Pacing Cup the gelding had then crossed to lead before contacting a marker peg and racing rough at which time he was obliged to restrain the gelding. He then surrendered the lead to WHODEANI which was racing forward on its outside. Mr Ashwood explained on this occasion the gelding began well from three and established a lengths break over the nearest runner SKY TOWER. Mr Ashwood also stated that he had received no real pressure during the race however would have considered handing up had he done so. Mr Ashwood also reported and stewards had reported the gelding had an issue with its teeth which led to it hanging out severely at its previous run which had since been corrected. Mr Ashwood said the gelding had worked well with fast class horses in the lead up to this race and when able to lead easily he elected to hold the lead and attempted to ratethe gelding over the longer distance. Stewards accepted Mr Ashwood’s explanation.
