Beth helped the CU Lady Tigers on a journey to multiple Elite 8 appearances at the NAIA National tournament. In recent years,Beth has coached teams at various ages and skill levels. In addition to her time with DLH, Beth is a coach for the Lebanon Youth Basketball Club, has helped to establish an overseeing Board of Directors for that program and is also the Girls Director for Lebanon Youth Basketball.

“I look forward to coaching this year and helping the 5th grade players to develop a deeper understanding of the game while focusing on fundamentals and having fun.” – Beth Sells

What to expect at tryouts

We don’t want to miss anyone or short change any players so between myself and the other 5th grade coaches, we plan on having multiple helpers assisting us at tryouts. This willallow us to give eachplayera fair evaluation and also allow the coaches to give instruction at the same time. I will be looking for hard work, solid fundamentals, and advanced basketball skills.

What to expect at practice

Practices will be very consistent from day to day. We will start with fundamental drills (ball handling, shooting, etc). We then progress into full court work (passing and cardio) then break out into stations to work on individual guard and post skills. All players receive ball handling and shooting attention every day at practice. Shooting technique is CRITICAL. Practices normally end with some type of scrimmage to review what we’ve learned in drills. Note: Not all scrimmages are 5v5. I believe to properly learn the game, 3v3 is beneficial. The girls need to learn to play basketball and 3v3 emphasizes solid basketball skills: cutting, screening and the pick and roll.

Expectationsfor this season

- We will practice 2 times per week with each practice lasting 1.5 – 2.0 hours.

- Practices will be in Dayton Ohio Area – March – May

- We will play 8-10 tournaments between March and Mid-June.

- Our season will end with a trip to Nationals in North Carolina June 20 - 26.

- Many of our tournaments will be local (less than 1 hour drive time). We will have 2-3 overnight trips (staying in a hotel) which helps with team bonding and preparation for the National Tournament.

- Girls who play other spring sports are welcome to try out for all DLH teams. I’ll do everything I can to accommodate your schedules, but I need your help - Communication is the key! We need to resolve any scheduling conflicts as early as possible. I’ll share my practice schedule and tournament schedule with you the final night of tryouts, after the teams are chosen, so you can get those schedules to your other spring sport coaches.

- Cost will be $550 plus the cost of uniform, if needed. I have plans in place to help reduce those costs and give as much money as I can back to the parents. I don’t want finances to stop a girl from playing AAU.

If you ever have a question about DLH or AAU basketball, please contact me anytime.
