2014 11-12 Talent I.D. Program

Eligibility:

  • Selectionis open toathletes that are 11 and 12 years of ageas of December 31, 2014 and who are members in good standing of Synchro Swim Ontario.
  • ALL athletes competing in the 11-12 Age Category in the Provincial Stream and National Stream will be assessed as follows:
  • For athletes in the National Stream, figure and routines will be observed by members of the High Performance Committee and scores and rankings from Provincial Championships and Espoir Championships will be assessed.
  • For athletes in the Provincial Stream, figure and routines will be observed by members of the High Performance Committee and scores and rankingsfrom Regional Championships and Age Group Championships will be assessed.

Byes:

The privilege of granting byes will be given at the discretion of the Synchro Swim Ontario High Performance Selection Committee. The bye process must be followed including proper and official written documentation by the athlete requesting a bye (written explanation, doctor’s note, etc.).

Authority for Selection:

The final decision-making authority to determine which athletes will be selected to the 2-Day 11-12 Talent I.D.

Assessment and the final 11-12 team (Top 10) will rest with the Head and Assistant Coach in partnership with the High Performance Committee. The Sport Development Manager, High Performance & CS4L is responsible for ensuring that the process outlined in this document is properly followed and that the selection process is fair and equitable for all candidates. The Sport Development Manager, High Performance & CS4L reserves the right to ask other Synchro Swim Ontario representatives to help and support her in this task.

2)Should an athlete decline their participation at the Assessment, she may be replaced by the next ranked athlete from the Selection Event.

*Note: Planning bid for UANA Championships August 10-18 in Riverside, CA. Bid requires Synchro Canada approval. If bid is unsuccessful, will run training program during the competition time frame. If bid is successful training will be required in preparation for the competition.

The Top 16 National Stream 11-12’s and Top 16 Provincial Stream 11-12 athletes will be invited to a two-day Talent I.D. Assessment (planned over Trillium Championships). The goal of this phase is to select the best possible team of 10 athletes. Top 10 to be determined based on physical testing assessments, basic routine & figure skills, as well as consideration of results achieved during the season. More informationregarding this phase including testing will be posted by April 30, 2014.Selection to the Top 10 will be determined by the Assessment Camp Selection Committee.

Please note that selection to the Final Team of 10 will require split testing (testing criteria will be aligned to Synchro Canada Protocol for 11-12 Skills and Fitness Assessment)

Should an athlete remove herself from the final team of 10 or be removed from the team for any reason (injury, illness, behaviour, etc) she may be replaced by the next ranked athlete from Phase 2.

11-12 Assessment Selection Committee

The Selection Committee will record their feedback during Phase 2 of selection and will meet to discuss the 11-12 Team Selection. Minutes will be taken to ensure that all information discussed is documented. These minutes will be confidential to the Committee.

  • Ensures the best Team of 10 athletes are selected to the Team

Synchro Swim Ontario High Performance Committee Members (3)

  • Observes and records feedback on athletes during the selection process
  • Provides expertise as a coach or judge and to ensure the best Team of athletes are selected
  • Ensures the selection process is followed and appropriate reasoning and rationale are provided

Expert Technical Advisor appointed by Synchro Swim Ontario

  • Observes and records feedback on athletes during the selection process
  • Provides expertise and analysis of performance skills to ensure the best Team of athletes are selected

Sport Development Manager, High Performance & CS4L

  • Observes and records feedback on athletes during the selection process
  • Provides expertise as a Coach and Synchro Swim Ontario staff member to ensure the best Team of athletes are selected
  • Ensures the selection process is followed and appropriate reasoning and rationale are provided

If for any reason all of the above mentioned individuals are unavailable to participate in the selection committee,Synchro Swim Ontario will select the next best-suited individual to replace them.

Provincial 10 & Under Talent I.D. and Provincial Training Squad Selection Criteria and Timeline

  • Selection is open to athletes that are 9 and 10 years of age as of December 31, 2014 and members in good standing of Synchro Swim Ontario.
  • Participation in an enrichment camp.
