2014-2015 Student Trainer Handbook

Scheduling and sport assignments:

Each Athletic Training Student (ATS) will be assigned a fall and spring sport. Seniors will have first pick on their sport assignment. ATS will be required to attend all football practices of their assigned football teams games (home and away). During the spring ATS will not be required to attend their sports practices but will be required to attend all home and away games along with any tournaments. If you are unable to attend a game and or practice Mrs. Dobbins must be notified within 24 hours of the event. Continued failure to show up to practice and games without notification to the coach and Mrs. Dobbins is grounds for removal from the program. If you will miss a game it is your responsibility to find another ATS to take your place.

Practices and Games:

When working football ATS are expected to report to the Training room 30 minutes before practice to set up the field and assist with treatments. Game day times will be posted on the ATS calendar a month an advance and will state when all ATS should report to the training room.

Dress Code:

All ATS are required to wear khaki shorts or pants to all Athletic competitions. Shorts must have a 5’ inseam and pants cannot have any holes. ATS will also have assigned game day shirts. If you are assigned to baseball or softball you will be allowed to wear wind pants or sweats to games when it is cold and or raining. Flip flops are not allowed during any practice or games. You must wear tennis shoes. When working football practice students are allowed to wear athletic shorts but they must be as long as your fingertips when your arms are straight by your side.

Cell Phones:

Cell phones are allowed at practices and games but should only be used in emergency situations or to contact Mrs. Dobbins. All cell phones should remain in your fanny pack at all times.

Kits:

It is your responsibility to keep your fanny pack and team kit stocked at all times. Your kit should be checked and restocked after every game.

Health:

Just as it is important to take care of your athletes it is also just as important to take care of yourself. If you are working football practices it is important to get a good nights rest, drink lots of water, and to eat a good breakfast. You can’t take care of your athletes if you don’t take care of yourself.

Grades:

You will be held to the same standard as all Athletes in accordance to grades. If you fail a course for the six weeks you will be suspended from all games and will be required to do study hall during your athletic period. If you do not have a passing grade by the following progress report you could be dismissed from the Athletic Training Program. Mrs. Dobbins and Coach Salmon will determine all final decisions about dismissal from the program. School comes first!!!

Cleaning:

There will be a cleaning list for the training room that must be completed after morning treatments/ practice and afternoon treatments/practice. The training room is a healthcare facility and should be treated as such.

Confidentiality:

All medical and health information of athletes is confidential. If you share any personal or health related information of athletes to fellow students, parents, and or persons you will automatically be dismissed from the program. All Athletic physicals and medical records are confidential and should only be handled by Mrs. Dobbins

Travel:

All ATS will travel with teams on the bus. Students will not be allowed to drive their own personal vehicles to any games due to liability.
