Stewards inquired into the reasons why racing in the home straight it appeared that RUSTLE MURRAY was checked and raced roughly for a short distance when racing to the inside of STONETHACHRISTIAN (Mark Yole) and to the outside of TINKERS TAXI (Nicholas Brockman). After taking evidence from the drivers, watching the official patrol films and acting on their own observations, Stewards determined that TINKERS TAXI shifted ground outwards slightly, while at the same time STONETHACHRISTIAN shifted inwards slightly and as a result RUSTLE MURRAY contacted the sulky wheel of STONETHACHRISTIAN. As Stewards could not hold any one driver fully responsible, no further action was taken, however all drivers were reminded of their obligations when shifting ground.

Stewards queried driver Mark Yole in relation to the apparent improved performance of STONETHACHRISTIAN. Mr Yole stated that on face value it would appear to be an improved performance; however he was not surprised with the gelding’s performance as it had galloped out at its last start for the stable. Mr Yole further stated that the race conditions tonight suited STONETHACHRISTIAN in that they ran a slow last quarter and the gelding had only been in this stable for approximately 4 weeks.
