RACE 1 – GREENHAMS MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1000 METRES

MRS BRAVO was declared a late scratching at 12:05pm on veterinary advice. Trainer Paula Mallinson was advised that she must submit a veterinary certificate prior to MRS BRAVO racing again.

NIBASUJI and FRENCH BRAID were to slow to begin (2L)

Passing the 800 metres MAVERICK MICK had to restrain off the heels of COMSUADI.

NIBASUJI, a first starter who raced greenly throughout, made the turn at the 750 metres awkwardly and veered off the track, slightly inconveniencing FRENCH BRAID.

COMSUADI shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RACE 3 – VORTEX AIR MAIDEN HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

Prior to race 3 riders and stewards inspected the track at the home turn as it was reported in the first race that several horses slipped at the point of the race. The riders unanimously decided to continue riding on a race by race basis monitoring the weather and track conditions.

ISLAND PRINCE was declared a late scratching at 12:15pm on veterinary advice. Trainer Rod McGarvie was advised that he must submit a veterinary certificate prior to ISLAND PRINCE racing again.

NEXT COPY who was difficult to load became fractious in the barriers and broke through the front, galloping riderless for a short distance before being recaptured. NEXT COPY was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. A warning has been placed on NEXT COPY’S barrier manners.

NEXT COPY (Michael McDonald) who was slow to begin (1L), tired from the 600 metres. Michael McDonald explained that in his opinion the gelding failed to handle the track conditions and was making a respiratory noise during the race. Michael McDonald further explained that the 1600 metres of today’s event was too far for the gelding and advised the trainer to fit a tongue tie to the gelding. Rod McGarvie, trainer of the gelding reported that he would be looking to place NEXT COPY over a more suitable distance next start and that the gelding would derive benefit from the run as it was the geldings second run this preparation.

Trainer Jim Taylor was questioned in relation to the improved performance of APPAROS in today’s event. Jim Taylor attributed the gelding’s performance to an increase in his fitness levels and dropping from a Class B to a Maiden.

RACE 4 – KING ISLAND FOODWORKS CLASS A HANDICAP – 1000 METRES

Michael McDonald who was unable to make the weight on CUPCAKE BRIBERY was replaced by Sandy Mullett.

MOORUNDA BELLE proved difficult to load, a warning has been placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

EDDINGTON and LOUGH CURRANE were slow to begin (2L).

Kodie Grace rider of LOUGH CURRANE reported that his saddle slipped shortly after jumping away and approaching the turn at the 750 metres the saddle slipped more severely leaving him unbalanced and unable to ride his mount out to the finish of the event.

Near the 70 metres Casey Bruce (JISUBANI) had to stop riding and straighten her mount as the gelding was inclined to hang in.

RACE 6 – JIM McKENZIE AGENCIES KING ISLAND GALLOPING CUP – 1800 METRES

KENTUCKY KING and I’MSINGINGTHEBLUES were slow to begin (3L).

Approaching the 600 metres LORD OF THE LODGE was momentarily held up behind the tiring MARKOV.

Near the 70 metres Melissa Nicholls (a) (LORD OF THE LODGE) had to stop riding and straighten her mount as the gelding was inclined to hang in.

MARKOV (Tennille Gray), who tired in the run and was eased down, underwent a post-race veterinary examination with the veterinary surgeon reporting that no obvious abnormalities could be detected. Tennille Gray reported that the gelding was making respiratory noises in the run and failed to run out the event as a result. Trainer Ron Crack advised that he will be working on the gelding’s fitness before its next start.

SUNSET REX (Michael McDonald) who was eased down over the concluding stages underwent a post-race veterinary examination with the veterinary surgeon reporting that no obvious abnormalities could be detected. Michael McDonald explained that is his opinion the gelding failed to handle today’s track conditions. Trainer Robert Keys could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance today and would press on with the preparation as in his opinion SUNSET REX was his best chance in today’s race.

Post-race swab samples were taken from I’MSINGINGTHEBLUES, the winner of the event.

RACE 7 – PARERS HOTEL CLASS A HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

Approaching the home turn SEVEN SQUARED was forced wider on the track by BLUE ALBA who shifted away from THEWAY IT SHATTERS who shifted off the fence and away from the heels of the tiring DR KEMPINSKY
