Please be certain that your submissions include the following elements:

Recommended Action: This is aclear statement of what the resolution hopes to accomplish.

Example:CANP shall establish a scholarship fund to assist 2nd year student members who have demonstrated academic and clinical excellence. CANP shall contribute $5,000 to establish the fund, with all remaining contributions to be solicited as voluntary donations from members and the public. The board of directors shall adopt appropriate policies to implement this resolution.

Background:Not an argument in support, but simply a factual statement to explain the reason the resolution is being introduced and what it hopes to accomplish.

Example: Data from a recent study (citation) found that numerous NP students are unable to complete their studies secondary to financial hardship. A scholarship may allow NP students to complete their studies.

Argument in Support:A brief statement of why the resolution should be adopted.

Example: NPs are a integral part of providing health care. CANP as the only association for all NPs in the state of California should support the profession.

Financial Implications: A brief statement of the fiscal impact if the resolution is adopted.

Example: There would be the initial expense of $5000 to start the scholarship fund and the estimated expense of administrating the fund of $2500/year.

If the resolution proposes to amend the Bylaws, the exact language to be placed in the bylaws should be stated. If the resolution proposes to amend an existing section, the current language should be shown with strike-out to indicate words to be deleted and underscore for words to be inserted.

Example:

Recommended Action:Amend Bylaws Article V Section 3 to increase the Board of Directors from twelve to fifteen members.

Existing language: The Board of Directors shall consist of the five statewide officers and seven regional directors.

Proposed Amendment: The Board of Directors shall consist of the five statewide officers and seven ten regional directors.

If adopted, will read: The Board of Directors shall consist of the five statewide officers and ten regional directors.

Background: The bylaws were amended in 2010 to increase the number of geographic regions from seven to ten. However, through an oversight the number of directors was not changed. As a result, the three new regions are not currently represented on the board.

Argument in Support: The delegates in 2010 wisely recognized the need to realign our regional structure in order to respond to changes in member demographics resulting from the construction of new medical facilities during the past two decades. Historically, the Board of Directors has reflected this regional structure by including regional directors elected by the members of each region. The three new regions have been deprived of their right to equal representation on the board and this resolution is necessary to correct the situation.

Financial implications: There would be an increase in the expense of the Board of Director meetings with three new directors. 2010 board expenses were $22,500. A twenty percent increase would be $4,500 annually.
