FACULTY BIOGRAPHIES

Matthew J. Arduino, MS, DrPH, FSHEA,RM(NRCM), M(ASCP)

Dr. Arduino is currently detailed to Division Office of the Director as Sr. Advisor for Environmental Hygiene and Infection Prevention. He is also Branch Chief, Clinical and Environmental Microbiology Branch, Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Office of Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Arduino joined the Division in 1988 and began research and outbreak response in dialysis-associated adverse events. Some of his honors include four Health and Human Services Awards for Distinguished Service, FDA Special Recognition Award, 28 CDC Awards & Ad Laudum Dei Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from College of Mount Saint Vincent.

Dr. Arduino received his B.S. in Biology from College of Mount Saint Vincent, his MS in Microbiology from New York Medical College, his M.P.H and Dr.P.H. in Parasitology and Laboratory Practice from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Eve Cuny, MS

Ms. Cuny is the Director of Environmental Health and Safety and Associate Professor at Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California, where she is also the Director of Global Initiatives. She is a consultant to the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs and a member of the National Occupational Research Agenda Council. She has published numerous articles and textbook chapters on safety and infection control and presented hundreds of continuing education programs domestically and internationally. She has worked with universities, nonprofit organizations and government agencies in Africa, Asia, India, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East to educate dental professionals in infection control and safety and assist in the development of sustainable oral health improvement projects.

Ms. Cuny was former Chairman of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention Board of Directors and continues to serve in an advisory capacity in the areas of science, practice and global education.

Kathy Eklund, RDH, MHP

Ms. Eklund is the Director of Occupational Health and Safety, and the Forsyth Research Subject and Patient Safety Advocate at The Forsyth Institute. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and Adjunct Faculty at the Mount Ida College School of Dental Hygiene, where she teaches senior level courses in Oral Health Research and Evidence-Based Decision Making. Ms. Eklund serves as faculty for the New England AIDS Education and Training Center and HIVdent.org. She is past Chair of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) and current member of the OSAP Board of Directors. Ms. Eklund is an author of the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings-2003.

Over the past 30 years, Ms. Eklund has published papers and contributed to several texts on infection control and safety and has lectured nationally and internationally on these topics.

Marie Fluent DDS

Marie T. Fluent, DDS is a graduate of the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry. She has enjoyed twenty-five years of general dental practice in Virginia, Maryland and Michigan and is currently an infection control consultant and speaker. Dr. Fluent is an educational consultant for OSAP (Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention), she has written numerous peer reviewed articles regarding infection control and presents on the topics of infection control and OSHA compliance in the dental office.

Hudson Garrett PhD, MSN, MPH, FNP-BC, CSRN, VA-BC™, CDONA, FACDONA, DON-CLTC™, C-NAC™, PLNC

Dr. Garrett is Global Chief Clinical Officer for Pentax Medical. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Chemistry and Nursing, a dual Masters in Nursing and Public Health, a Post-Masters Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner, a Post-Masters Certificate in Infection Preventionand Infection Control, and a PhD in Healthcare Administration and Policy. He has completed the Johns Hopkins Fellows Program in Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control, and the CDC Fundamentals of Healthcare Epidemiology program. He is board certified in family practice, critical care, vascular access,moderate sedation, legal nurse consulting, and as a director of nursing in long term care. He is also a Fellow in the Academy of National Associations of Directors of Nursing Administration in Long Term Care.

Dr. Garret is on the Board of Directors for the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) and is also on the Editorial Review Board for the OSAP publication Infection Control in Practice.Dr. Garrett serves on the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America Pediatric Subcommittee, as President of the Board of Directors, for the Vascular Access Certification Corporation, is the past Education Chair for the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the Association for Professionals In Infection Control

and Epidemiology Board of Directors, a National Faculty Member for the Emergency Care and Safety Institute, President of the Board of Directors, for the SE Chapter of the Infusion Nurses Society, the Industry Liaison for the Board of Directors for the Association for the Healthcare Environment, a member of the Clinical Practices Advisory Committee for the Association for Vascular Access, and a past member of the Recommended Practices Advisory Board for the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses. In addition, he received a Presidential Citation from the Society of Critical Care Medicine in 2011 and was recognized as a 2013 “Who’s Who in Infection Prevention and Control” by Infection Control Magazine.

Karen Gregory, RN

Ms. Gregory has over 20 years’ experience working in the outpatient environment, both at the front line delivering patient care and in the management arena. Being passionate about both employee and patient safety, she takes every possible opportunity to improve the quality of healthcare for all involved.

She joined Total Medical Compliance in 2006 as Director of Compliance and Education where she is responsible for the development and supervision of compliance programs within the organization.

Ms. Gregory is a requested speaker at local and state medical and dental meetings, including the Hinman Dental Meeting, Annual Conference and Dental Infection Control Boot Camp™ of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention and annual conference of the American Association of Dental Assistants. She is on the Editorial Review Board for OSAP’s Infection Control in Practice publication and is a frequent author of infection control articles published in local and state organizations’ newsletters and journals. Ms. Gregory currently serves on the OSAP Board of Directors and is a Hu-Friedy Key Opinion Leader.

Michael Joseph, DDS, MSD

Dr. Joseph currently is the Chief, Dental Service, Huntington Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center as well as being the Lead Dentist for VISN 5. He is one of the Dentistry Infection Control Consultants for the Veterans Health Administration Central Office.

Dr. Joseph is a graduate of West Virginia University School of Dentistry. Dr. Joseph received his periodontal training from Indiana University, and is Board Certified by the American Board of Periodontology. He maintained a private periodontal practice for six years before joining the Veterans Administration.

He also serves on the Editorial Review Board of Infection Control in Practice for the Organization for Safety, Asepsis, and Prevention.

Michele Junger, DDS, MPH

Dr. Junger is a Dental Officer at the CDC Division of Oral Health (DOH). Dr. Junger joined the division in February 2015, where she focuses on issues related to infection control and dental public health.Prior to joining DOH, Dr. Junger served as a Project Officer at the Health Resources and Services Administration, where she was responsible for oral health workforce and training grants. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia, a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, and a Master of Public Health Degree from the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. In addition, she completed a dental public health residency and a research fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Junger is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health.

Kelli C. Mack, DDS

Lt Col Mack is the Director of Professional Services at the USAF Dental Evaluation and Consultation Service (DECS). Lt Col Mack is the Air Force Dental Military Consultant to the Surgeon General for Infection Control and Patient Safety. Dr. Mack received her BS in Microbiology and her DDS from Howard University. She has practiced dentistry in the private sector, the Army Reserves and the Air Force Active Duty Corps. Lt Col Mack has completed a postgraduate fellowship in Patient Safety/Infection Prevention and Control at the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Health Center. Her duty locations have included Travis AFB, California; Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Irwin, California; Kadena AB, Okinawa Japan and in July of 2013, she was assigned to the USAF Dental Evaluation and Consultation Service, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Dr. Mack has been a part of organized dentistry for 20 years and is an active member of the only infection control organization dedicated to dental infection control, the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP). Lt Col Mack has been responsible for the direct oversight of Dental Infection Prevention and Control programs for over ten years.

ShannonMills, DDS

Dr. Mills is the Vice President for Strategy and Business Development at PreViser Corporation, a healthcare analytics software company specializing in oral health risk assessment which was acquired by Northeast Delta Dental in March, 2016. From 2007 until 2016, he was the Vice President for Professional Relations and Science at Northeast Delta Dental in Concord, NH.

Dr. Mills is a 1977 graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry and completed his two-year residency in general dentistry at Wilford Hall US Air Force Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas in 1983. Prior to joining Delta Dental in 2007, Dr. Mills was an Associate Professor and the Assistant Director of the Dental General Practice Residency Program at the University of Nevada School of Medicine.

In July of 2005, Dr. Mills retired from the U.S. Air Force as a colonel after 32 years of service in the US and overseas where he gained experience in in clinical dentistry, education, research and healthcare administration. While on active duty, he served as a Chief of the USAF Dental Investigation Service, was a Medical Inspector for the Air Force Inspector General, served on the Air Force Surgeon General’s staff and at the time of his retirement was Deputy Staff Director of the Defense Medical Standardization Board for the Department of Defense.

He has authored or co-authored numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed dental and scientific journals and is internationally recognized as an authority on dental infection control and safety. He previously served as the Chairman of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) and remains an active member. He was a member of the Advisory Group that prepared the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Healthcare Settings—2003.

Dr. Mills is currently a consultant to the American Dental Association (ADA) Council on Scientific Affairs and a peer reviewer for the Journal of the American Dental Association. He currently is a Past-Chairman of the ADA and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standards Committee for Dental Products and is member of the ANSI/ADA Standards Committee for Dental Informatics where he chairs the working group on electronic clinical risk assessment software.

John A. Molinari, Ph.D.
Dr. Molinari is currently Director of Infection Control for The Dental Advisor in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is also Professor Emeritus at the University of Detroit Mercy, where he served for 32 years in the School of Dentistry as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Director of Infection Control. He has published over 500 scientific articles, text chapters, and abstracts in the areas of microbiology and immunology, and lectures nationally and internationally on topics dealing with infectious diseases and infection control.

Dr. Molinari is one of the founding members of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention and served as its Chairman of the Board for several years.

Dr. Molinari is also co-author of the text Cottone’s Practical Infection Control in Dentistry. He has served as a consultant for the CDC, ADA Council on Scientific Affairs, Council on Dental Practice, and regional hospitals. Dr. Molinari also was Chairman of the State of Michigan Governor’s Risk Reduction and AIDS Policy Commission. Previously, he was the Infection Control section editor for The Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, a member of the Editorial Board for The Journal of the American Dental Association and contributed a monthly column for Dental Economics. In recognition of his efforts, Dr. Molinari was inducted as an honorary member of the Michigan Dental Association, the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, and was a 2009 recipient of the ADA Golden Apple Award.

Douglas Risk, DDS

Col Risk is the Director of the USAF Dental Evaluation and Consultation Service (DECS) and Military Consultant to the AF Surgeon General for Dental Materials, Devices, and Investigations. As Director, DECS, he overseestesting, evaluation, and consultative services on dental equipment, materials, infection control, patient safety, and dental readiness. DECS also assists in resolving operational issues for in-garrison and expeditionary dental clinics and conducts special projects directed by the Air Force Medical Operations Agency. DECS provides research support to Masters-level post-graduate dental school residency programs and works with the US Army and US Navy research facilities on issues relevant to the needs of the federal dental services.

Col Risk received his DDS from Georgetown School of Dentistry and completed the Air Force Advanced Education in General Dentistry 2-year program in 1997. He has commanded at the squadron and deputy Medical Group levels. He has been assigned to the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General and has been deployed to the Middle East in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. He is a past Air Force Consultant in Dental Infection Control, previously CIC, and is a diplomate of the American Board of General Dentistry. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention.

Scott Trapp, DDS, MBA, MPH

Dr. Trapp is Chief of the Dental Service for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) St. Louis Health Care System and one of two Infection Control Consultants for the Office of Dentistry responsible for providing expert advice to field operations related to the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard. He also serves as the VA representative to the American Dental Association’s Standards Committee on Dental Products.

Prior to joining the VHA, Dr. Trapp served as the Deputy Regional Administrator for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Office of Regional Operations in Kansas City and the Clinical Director and Chief Dental Officer at the Lawton Indian Hospital, in the Oklahoma City Area, Indian Health Service.

Dr. Trapp has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Iowa with Master’s degrees in Public Health from the University of South Florida and Business Administration from Creighton University. He is a member of the American and International Colleges of Dentistry.

In addition to numerous PHS Awards, Dr. Trapp has received two IHS National Director’s Awards for group performance and numerous IHS Area Director’s Awards ranging from outstanding group performance to managerial excellence. Further, he was recognized by his peers with the Ernest Eugene Buell Award presented a dental officer who has made a significant contribution in oral health education, research or service. He has authored several professional papers, is a member of numerous professional organizations.
