ACONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE CHAPIN GARDEN CLUB FOR ITS OUTSTANDING HISTORY AND VOLUNTEER WORK IN THE CHAPIN COMMUNITY AND TO CONGRATULATE MARY LAFOND, CLUB PRESIDENT, AND THE CLUB’S MEMBERS UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR SEVENTYFIFTH ANNIVERSARY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that the Chapin Garden Club will celebrate its seventyfifth anniversary during a dropin to be held at the Chapin Chamber of Commerce Houseon April 21, 2013; and

Whereas, organized in 1938with Mr. Alvin Frick as its president, the Chapin Garden Club originally focused its efforts on beautifying Chapin and became a Federated Garden Club in 1945; and

Whereas, as the community’s oldest volunteer organization, it continues its impressive activity to promote the love of gardening, protect the community’s trees and flowers, and encourage civic beauty; and

Whereas, the Chapin Garden Club maintains the town’s entrance planters, library urns, and Carolina Fence Garden; plants treesaround the community;delivers flower arrangements to residents at Generations, the local assistedliving complex; and participates in communitywide projects, such as Community Service Day; and

Whereas, anyone in the greater Chapin area who has a love of gardening and wants to share that passion with the community is encouraged to join and participate in monthly meetings where members conduct business and enjoy wonderful gardenrelated programs; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assemblyappreciates the labor of beauty that the Chapin Garden Club has contributed to the community over the past seventyfive years and congratulates the club’s members for their seventyfive years spent in showcasing the Chapin community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Chapin Garden Club for its outstanding history and volunteer work in the Chapin community and congratulate Mary LaFond, club president, and the club’s members upon the occasion of their seventyfifth anniversary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented toMary LaFond.
