A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE UNION BAPTIST CHURCH OF YORK COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF ITS HISTORIC ONE HUNDRED SEVENTYFIFTH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND THE CHURCH FOR NEARLY TWO CENTURIES OF SERVICE TO GOD AND THE COMMUNITY.
Whereas, having been founded on March 24, 1838, in the Filbert community, three miles north of the village of Yorkville (York), Union Baptist Church of York County will celebrate its historic one hundred seventyfifth anniversary in 2013; and
Whereas, at its birth, the new church had the assistance of Flint Hill Baptist Church near Fort Mill, which sent representatives to Filbert to help organize Union Baptist; and
Whereas, when Union Baptist was only thirty years old, it became a charter member of the York Baptist Association, organized in 1868; and
Whereas, throughout the years of its history, the church has held to its solemn covenant to take the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as its rule of faith and practice. The church has ministered to the community; supported missions locally, nationally, and around the world, and joyfully witnessed the transformation of many lives; and
Whereas, on Sunday, March 24, 2013, the grateful congregation of Union Baptist will hold a special commemorative service to celebrate God’s faithfulness to the church, both spiritually and materially, over nearly two centuries; and
Whereas, standing on the faith and strength of its early pastors and members, Union Baptist Church’s present congregation “press[es] toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14); and
Whereas, Union Baptist Church has been a beacon of light in York County for one hundred seventyfive years, and, God willing, will continue its godly heritage in many more years of worship and service. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Union Baptist Church of York County on the occasion of its historic one hundred seventyfifth anniversary and commend the church for nearly two centuries of service to God and the community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Union Baptist Church.
