2012 Red Hawks Time Keeping/Score Keeping Instructions

U13/U15TimeKeeping

Stop time 10 minutes per period

STOP TIME: Game clock starts and stops every time an official blows the whistle.

PENALTY TIME: Timekeeper keeps track of each player’s penalty time. All penalty time, at all levels, should run concurrent with the game clock. Timekeeper must countdown thelast 10 seconds of the penalty time and shout “RELEASE” when the penalty expires.

END OF PERIOD: Timekeeper must inform the nearest official, in a loud voice, when one minute remains in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd qtrs. and 2 minutes remain in the 4th qtr. and thencount down the last 10 seconds. TIMER INFORMS SCORER OF GAME TIME WHEN GOALS ARE SCORED, WHEN PENALTIES OCCUR AND WHEN TIMEOUTS ARE CALLED.

Half Time: Set timer for ten minutes – inform ref that two minutes remain – so ref can inform teams

RUNNING TIME: Game clock starts with opening face-off and only stops for team timeouts, officials’timeouts and period breaks.

PENALTY TIME: Timekeeper keeps track of each player’s penalty time. All penalty time, at all levels, should run concurrent with the game clock. Timekeeper must countdown thelast 10 seconds of the penalty time and shout “RELEASE” when the penalty expires. (“ten, nine,…. two, one, release”)

END OF PERIOD: Timekeeper must inform the nearest official, in a loud voice, when one minute remains in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd qtrs. and 2 minutes remain in the 4th qtr. and thencount down the last 10 seconds. Sound horn when time expires. TIMER INFORMS SCORER OF GAME TIME WHEN GOALS ARE SCORED, PENALTIES OCCUR AND WHEN TIMEOUTS ARE CALLED.

Score Keeping Instructions (#’s refer to section on scoresheet)

1. HOME & VISITOR SCORES (MOST IMPORTANT)

Respective team scores are kept here. TIME box: Entertime in period in which goal is scored. GOAL BY box:First box isfor number of player who scored the goal. Second box is for the number of player who assistedon the goal. (optional, but put number in if scoring coach says so)

2. PLAYERS’ NAMES – DO FIRST BEFORE GAME STARTS

Enter each players’ #, first initial & last name. Onlythose players listed can enter the game. The first playerlisted should be the “In home”. (ref’s track in-home so not critical to have in home listed first in youth games)

3. PERIODS 1-4 & OT (Very useful to coaches)

Place a mark in the appropriate period for eachgoal scored.

4. ASSISTS (Very useful to coaches)

Any one direct pass by a player to a teammate whothen scores a goal without having to dodge or evade anopponent is recorded as an assist. There can be onlyone assist per goal. Coach should inform scorekeeperof all assists.

5. PENALTIES (2nd MOST IMPORTANT)

Per. = Period in which foul occurs.No. = The number of the offending player.FOUL = An official will tell you the foul.Min. = Length of the penalty (one of 3:00, 2:00,1:00,0:30).Time = Time remaining in period that the foul occurred.

6. TOTAL SAVES (Nice to have, but hard to do with 2 at table)

A save is recorded any time a ball is stopped ordeflected by the goalie in such a manner that had it not been touched it would have entered the goal.

7. TIMEOUTS (3rd MOST IMPORTANT)

Each team has two timeouts per half, & one perOT period. Record the game time and period
