2012-2013CJWMS Cheerleading Constitution/ Code of Conduct
Welcome to the CJWMS Cheerleading team. We are excited to be your coaches and look forward to a wonderful and exciting year together. Being a member of this team is an honor and a privilege and we expect you to represent CJWMS and this team at all times. Your attitude, behavior and leadership play an important role in our success as a team.
This constitution is an extension of the CJWMS Athletic Handbook.
Disciplinary action may be changed at any time for any reason by the coaching staff.
- Organization
- This constitution has been written and adopted for the CJWMS Bulldogs.
- Henceforth, the name of the organization shall be CJWMS Bulldog Cheerleaders.
- The purpose of the CJWMS Bulldogs Bulldog Cheerleaders is to:
- Create school spirit, pride and loyalty.
- Promote interest in school activities and perform at school games.
- Develop responsibility, teach self-respect, encourage honest effort, strive for perfection, and develop character.
- Teach teamwork and pride in quality performance through maintaining high standards.
- ACoach will be hired by the Crown Point board of education upon recommendation of the Principal.
- The Coach will be responsible for the daily running and activities for the CJWMS Bulldog Cheerleaders.
- The Coach, Athletic Director and/or Administrators will be responsible for administering all disciplinary procedures.
- The Coach may place certain restrictions on team members.
- Eligibility
- All cheerleaders are expected to maintain a C average (2.0 GPA).
- Two or more failing grades on a report card or progress report will result in suspension from all team activities until the next grade check. (See Athletic Handbook.)
- All cheerleaders are required to submit progress reports and grade reports at the next scheduled cheerleading practice/event following distribution of the report.
- The team shall consist of a minimum of 14 and a maximum of 20 girls.
- There will be no more than four Captains.
- Attendance
- Attendance at practices, games, competitions and other team events ismandatory.
- All members must be in the practice area ready to warm up no later than five minutes prior to the scheduled start time for a practice and no later than forty five minutes prior to the scheduled start time for a game.
- All members must attend each activity in its entirety.
- To participate in a performance (game, competition, performance) a student must attend the entire school day, unless the athlete is excused (dr. appointment, funeral, and etc.) from school.
- Absences from practices, games, competitions or other team events due to academic reasons (i.e. choir concert, etc.) are allowed. Please notify a coach in writing of the absence as soon as the date is known.
- All absences must be documented in writing by the parent.
- If a member is ill and misses ANY activity she must be at home or seeking medical attention.
- If a member misses ANY practices without being excused by the coach prior to the practice, she will sit out the next game.
- Non-emergency doctor appointments, outside activities, etc. must be scheduled around practices, games, competitions and other CJWMS Cheerleading events/activities. These are NOT excused absences.
- Attire and Uniforms
- Each member will be required to provide appropriate attire for practice consisting of shorts, t-shirt and cheer shoes. Please note, a team member will not be allowed to participate in any practice, game, or other event without proper shoes. Hair should be pulled back in a pony tail. Bangs should be clipped back away from face.
- The following is NOT allowed at practices, games or other team events: chewing gum, jewelry, long nails, and nail polish (other than clear).
- Performance uniforms will be provided by CJWMS for a rental fee and will be the property of CJWMS and must be returned at the end of the season. Failure to return uniforms will result in a fine equal to the replacement cost of the uniform(s).
- School and game attire will be assigned by the coaches for each game or event. All members are expected to abide by these assignments.
- Each member will be required to maintain good condition and cleanliness of her uniform.
- Additional clothing and accessories will be required throughout the season such as warm-ups, lollies, hair bows, competition cheer shoes, t-shirts, hoodies, crop tops, bags, etc. Each member is responsible for the expenses associated with these purchases.
- Cheer shoes for basketball season and competitionarenotto be worn outdoors.
- Use of cell phones during practices and games is not allowed. Cell phones must be turned off at the start of practice and cannot be turned back on until the team has been dismissed. If a call to a parent is necessary, this can be accommodated as long as a coach is notified in advance.
- Medical
- Each squad member must have a complete IHASS physical exam conducted and submitted for the 2013/2014season. This physical must be turned in before the first practice.
- A copy of the school medical form must be on file with the school nurse.
- A member must also have a completed medical form on file with the Coach.
- The Coach must have these forms in her possession at all times.
- These forms can be obtained from the school Nurse.
- Character
- Team members should be leaders within the school and set a good example at all times.
- Team members should be above reproach maintaining good personal appearance and habits that cannot be criticized.
- Smoking, drinking and/or drug use are grounds for punishment according to WMS Athletic Handbook.
- A member must be courteous to all other team members, including team members from other schools.
- A member must be respectful to the Coach and a credit to the school.
- Discipline
- Cumulative Issues can and will result in "being benched" from performances and or additional conditioning, examples of this behavior are listed below.
- Tardiness to any team activity (practices, games, performances, etc.)
- Chewing gum at practice or at a game.
- Inappropriate dress at practice or game. (missing bow, wrong socks, nail polish, jewelry, wrong uniform, hair not pulled back, bangs in face, etc.)
- Disrespect toward CJWMS staff, another team member or team members from other schools.
- Use of inappropriate language.
- School detention that results in an absence.
- Suspension from the squad means attending team functions but not being allowed to participate.Two suspensions from the squad will result in dismissal from the team.
- Any school detention or school imposed discipline will be frowned upon by the team. After school detention will not be considered an excused absence.
- Camp and Competitions
- Summer cheer camp and team competitions are mandatory. All members are required to attend.
Failure to abide by the CJWMS Cheerleading Constitution and Code of Conduct and the CJWMS Athletic Handbook may result in removal from practices, games, competitions, team activities/events, or the team. Each situation will be dealt with on an individual basis at the discretion of the coaching staff.
