A review of Attendance/Tardiness Procedures

The teacher will keep accurate attendance records and respond quickly to all absences, in line with the 2012-13 Bloomington Jefferson Attendance Policy. This Jefferson Attendance Policy and Procedures will apply to all students in this course. The following is a brief review of some attendance policies. See the official Jefferson Attendance Policy for complete details that are reviewed at the start of each school year.

Absent from Class: It is the student’s responsibility to get assignments that are or will be missed because of an EXCUSED absence. Make up work should be turned in within a time period that is agreed upon by both of us. Lab work is difficult to make up. Missed labs due to any reason must be made up at home and evaluated/signed off by a parent/guardian, a form is provided for verification or with an alternative assignment. If the student will be missing several days because of school activities or vacation, he/she must ask for the assignment before he/she leaves.

EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: See Student Handbook. “EXCUSED” means the parent or guardian has called the Attendance Clerk within 24 hours of the absence. “UNEXCUSED” means that the school was not notified by the parent/guardian that the student would not be in school that day. YOU CANNOT MAKE UP WORK IF YOU HAVE AN “UNEXCUSED.” Three tardies equals one unexcused absence. BE TO CLASS ON TIME! I TAKE ATTENDANCE ALL THROUGHOUT THE HOUR! Suspension and Quiet Room referrals do not count as absences, however, nurse’s office absences are included in the total number of absences. If you leave early, I will mark you absent. Leaving class early is considered an unexcused absence. Taking a pass and being gone from class more than 10 minutes is considered an unexcused absence. Touring the school with a pass will be considered an unexcused absence. ONE STUDENT PER PASS! Any abuse of hall pass…NO USE OF HALL PASS!

ILLNESS: the School Nurse must authorize a student illness before a student is allowed to leave the building. You must have a blue pass to go to the nurse, unless it is an extreme emergency. If you are sick, please stay home and get well. No one else wants to be sick.

SCHOOL SPONSORED ABSENCES:The faculty member authorizing the school-sponsored absence is responsible for turning in student names and hours of absence to the Attendance Office prior to the absence. Remember, that it is the student’s responsibility to arrange for classroom work missed.

Special Education: Individual student modifications to the objectives and expectations (for IEP) will be defined per teacher when appropriate. If you have an IEP, 504 or special needs please meet with me privately so I can do everything possible to help you be successful in my class.

The student will follow the job/target/fish behavior protocol guidelines; otherwise the teacher will take appropriate action for the unwanted behavior(s). Disruptive behavior is not tolerated and consequences are severe.

PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF ALL STUDENTS IN THEIR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. If not respectful, you will be asked to leave for the quiet room. The student is responsible for anything he/she breaks or damages and must pay for repair or replacement of broken item(s). Again- just is respectful!

There is a $35.00 class donation to cover the cost of food we use and eat in class. This fee is due the first week of class- otherwise no cooking and a book will be your cooking and learning experience. Please turn in this signed form and your class donation to cover the cost of food we use and eat in class. Please make a check out to Jefferson High School (cash is okay).
