SE SCOT WG FIRST AID COMPETITION - 14 APRIL 2013
1.The First Aid (FA) Competition will be held at RAF Leuchars commencing at 0900Hrs hrs, 14 Apr 13. It is open to all enrolled cadets who have achieved at least the St John Ambulance Youth First Aid standard. (Heartstart only trained cadets have not got enough experience and will therefore not enjoy the experience, so therefore can’t participate).
2.17 and Under TeamsSqns/DFs are invited to nominate a maximum of one cadet team for this competition. Cadet teams should consist of 4 cadets. The competition will include a practical team test (10 minutes) and practical individual tests (4 minutes). Please note that cadets should be aged under 18 on the 31 Dec 13.
3.Young Adult Pairs Additionally Sqns/DFs are invited to nominate one Young Adult Pair. Young adult teams must beaged 18 to 24 on 31 Dec 13. Participants may be Cadets or Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.
4.Presentation The winning Cadet Team will be presented with the Wing FA Trophy and will go forward, together with the runner up, to represent the Wing at the Regional ATC Cadet FA Competition, which will be held at RAF Leuchars on 2 Jun . The Young Adult Pairs will be presented the Erasmuson Cup and will also represent the Wing at the Regional Competition at RAF Leuchars on 2 Jun 13.
5.ResourcesThe booklet “The Cadet’s First Aid Competition Handbook” should be consulted for ‘guidance’. (Please be aware the book will still refer to 3 team members in the team, not 4 and may cover injuries/techniques not used at Youth First Aid level or out of date; however it is still a valuable resource)
6.CFAV Supervision Teams must be accompanied by at least onestaff member who will be asked to assist with stewarding/supervision duties. Those without a Mod Form 90 should bring some form of photographic identification, such as a Passport. Cadets must bring their RAF F3822. Please be aware that should a team be nominated to represent the Wg at the Regional Competition, there must be escorting staff present to assist on the day, this includes the Young Adult Pair.
7.DeadlinePlease complete the respective entry forms and submit to the Wing First Aid Instructor (Training) (WFAI(T)) via email, if possible. The deadline for submissions is 1200Hrs, 5 Apr 12. (No applications will permitted after this date, due the organisation involved) Each application must contain an accurate Nominal Roll of participants, casualties and CFAVs, so a SMS PIPE can be raised on Bader, plus a Nominal Roll for the Main Guardroom. Any changes to personnel after the deadline must be emailed to ASAP.
8.EquipmentAll teams must supply their first aid materials for the competition
Individual Test (for each team member/each individual in the Young Adult Pair)
Pen and Note Book
Watch (Take pulse)
3 roller dressings(Normally put in a small bag/box for each competitor)

Not including the above, as the bandages and gloves may have fake blood on them
Team Test (for each team member/each individual in the Young adult team)
Pen and Note Book
Watch (Take pulse)
3 roller dressings (Normally all put in one First Aid box/Bag)
1 triangular sling
1 pair of first aid gloves
9.Messing/Accommodation Pack lunches will be required for all personnel, as participants should not rely on going to the Spar Shop, due to the nature of the competition as participants are kept in secure areas and may not be authorised to venture away from the supervising CFAVs until later in the day.
10.Casualties/BystandersIf you have any keen cadets (not already participating) that would like to be a casualty, then please note them on the application form, as the competition can’t happen without them (I will be looking for approximately 7 in total)
11.Mobile TelephoneMobile telephones are banned from the tri-service first aid competition sets and secure areas. (Team participants must give them to their CFAV personnel at the start of the day, if they have had to bring them to the venue)
12.Dress All Uniformed participants must arrive in Combat 95 (prepared for the weather conditions), ready for the competition, this might include a Sqn T-shirt/jumper, however all competitors must be dressed the same, unless the competitor is a Civilian Instructor, as they must wear suitable civilian clothing for possibly kneeling on grass and coming into contact with casualty simulation materials. All Uniformed personnel not participation in the competition must wear No2 Working Dress uniform. All participants must bring their No2 Working Dress with them for the final parade, as per the Corps instruction on first aid competition dress by Wg Cdr S Malloy.
13.DispersalIt is difficult to gage the interest at this stage, so be prepared for a full days Competition.
