St. John’s Episcopal Church Vacation Bible School2011
June 19th– June 23rd ** 6:15 p.m.-8:30 p.m. **
This summer, Hero Headquarters takes us on a journey to learn about some special “heroes” from the Bible, along with heroes that we know in our everyday lives. Led by our camp heroes, Maintenance Mac, Water Woman and Pizza Man, this is sure to be an exciting week.
VBS is for:
Children 3 yrs - sixth grade (fall 2011)(Preschoolers must be turning age 3 by 9/1/11 and potty trained to participate)
Youth helpers 7th through 12th grade (attend at no cost and receive volunteer credit documentation)
Registration Deadlines: Registration begins March 1st. Registration closes April 15th – After April 15th you will be placed on a waiting list.
Registration Procedure:
- Complete the registration form. (Forms are available on-line, at the Sunday school table and the ParishLifeCenter). There are 2 kinds of registration forms available, one for campers and another for youth helpers 7th grade and older. All forms must be completed in entirety, including volunteer preferences.
- Attach a check payable to St. John’s Episcopal Church with VBS on the memo line.
- Submit to St. John’s church office in person or by mail. The office address is: 9120 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, Maryland21042. There is a mail slot in the door if you go by after hours. The school office will not accept forms.
Parent Participation Requirement: St. John’sVacationBibleSchool is a shared experience between adults and children. This camp is run solely by volunteers! Your generously volunteered time is one of the reasons that VBS is a wonderful experience for all of us year after year. A commitment of parent participation is requiredfor each child. This year we are requesting every family donate at least 3 evenings. Since this is an evening camp this year, there have been a few changes made to the volunteer positions. (These positions are also available to youth helpers.)
Volunteer Position Information
Classroom leaders (Hero Guides)- will be welcoming campers into the classroom for check-in, and leading them from the Opening/Bible story in All Saints Hall to each station (Games, Art and Music). At the end of the evening the campers will be dismissed from the classroom. There will not be traditional “classroom” time this year. We will do a more in depth Bible exploration in a group format in the beginning of the evening. For the younger grades, 3yr-1st, we are requiring that the guides volunteer for the entire week. The younger children really need the stability of seeing the same smiling faces everyday! Please help us provide that!Art helpers- will assist the art director with assembling materials and helping campers complete projects.
Music helpers- will assist the music director in song instruction with campers.
Games helpers-will assist the game director with game instruction, organization of groups and water canteen set-up.
Bible Story helpers(New!)- will assist the camp directors and Reverend Ovenstone Smith with the opening and bible story from 6:15-7:00.
Dessert set up/clean up- assist the dessert coordinator from 6:00-7:00 in the lower commons for campers.
Drink/Snack helper- need one person to oversee disbursement of snacks and drinks to the volunteers.
Audio Visual assistant- anyone who feels comfortable and has some previous knowledge with running the system in All Saints Hall from 6:15-7:00 p.m.
Set up Helpers- are available on Saturday afternoon, June 18th, to assist the directors with classroom set up and All Saints Hall stage decorating. (Anyone who is selected to help with this will not need to volunteer during the camp.)
Floaters- anyone willing to assist in any area of the camp!
We look forward to see you at Hero Headquarters! Questions, please e-mail Joan Stralka at .
