Academic Activities

Major Research Interests

My research goal is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of cancer metastasis and progression, with the ultimate aim of becoming a leader in translational research targeting metastatic cancer. My current doctoral research is focused on understanding how adipokinesin the breast tumor microenvironment, specifically adiponectin, alter autophagy in invasive breast cancer cells and thus alter their metastatic potential. Gaining better understanding of relationships between adiponectin, autophagy, and breast cancer cell behavior will help us further identify the molecular underpinnings of breast cancer metastasis and provide clues for designing new therapies for metastatic disease, which remains the chief cause of cancer mortality.
