2011 Innovative Counseling Award Program (ICAP)
The Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF) is pleased to offer counseling staff in the Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) the opportunity to apply for a grant through the Innovative Counseling Award Program, (ICAP.) The purpose of this program for counseling is to help fund innovative new projects that enhance counseling activities and improve the educational experiences of students. We encourage you to pay close attention to the application guidelines in order to increase the quality of your proposal, and to contact us with any questions you have.

An optional ITAP/ICAP Workshop will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 4pm at the YaleLoopConferenceCenter (2 Alderwood, Irvine, 92604). The workshop is designed to give grant writers information and assistance preparing the grant. Please RSVP to Linda Maver, , if you would like to attend.
Application Process
- Applications must be typed and include the 2011 cover sheet (attached). Check the IPSF website for more information or to download this document. Proposals must be clearly written and thoroughly describe projects and programs that meet the ICAP criteria.
- Completed applications must be received at the IPSF office no later than4:00 pm on Friday, February 25, 2011. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.Wedo accept applications via email. Please see instructions below for submission.
- The application must be completed without mentioning the name of your school to help ensure an unbiased evaluation process.
- Funding limits per school do not apply; however, we recommend that individual requests do not exceed $5,000. Counseling staff may apply for school-specific or district-wide programs.
- Last year’s award recipients must submit completed evaluation forms to IPSF by March 4, 2011to be considered for funding again this year.
- ICAP awards are intended to fund a proposed project, not a specific counselor. Awards granted to a counselor remain the property of the school (not the recipient).
- Recipients will be notified in late April, and a reception honoring grantees will be held in May. It is expected that funds will be disbursed to the school district in June, 2011, and will then be available in your school’s gift account.

NOTE: Pay careful attention to the criteria used by the ICAP Review Committee to evaluate proposals, and address these issues in your application. For complete information about guidelines and criteria, go to
Section I – Program Description
- Please provide
- a project title
- a one-paragraph summary of the project
- Provide a detailed description of the following information:
- Need for the project.
- Goals of the project.
- How the project will improve current instruction and add to IUSD’s Continuous Improvement Efforts.
- How this project is innovative
- Specify the number of students and the grade levels that will benefit annually from the project.
- Provide an estimated timeline for the project, including when you expect the program to begin, how long it will last, when and how you anticipate assessing the program’s effectiveness.
Section II – Evaluation of the Project
- How will the project benefit students? How will funding help you implement creative approaches to guidance counseling?
- What quantitative and/or qualitative indicators will you use to assess the impact of the project on students?
- What quantitative and/or qualitative indicators will you use to assess the impact of the project on guidance services and counselors at your school?
(Please note: All grant recipients will be required to submit an evaluation report to IPSF by early March, 2012. The reporting format will be distributed after the ICAP grants are awarded.)
Section III – Funding Request
- Please provide an itemized, prioritized budget of your project. (Include all expenses such as product purchase costs, labor/installment costs, shipping/handling, etc.)
- Indicate levels of funding that would enable you to partially and/or fully initiate your program.
- Indicate additional sources of support that you anticipate having for the project, e.g., from your school or PTA.
- Do you anticipate applying for ICAP funds again next year?
If this project is an extension of a previously funded ICAP award, please indicate the year the project received funding and why continued support is important. Please note that IPSF will not fund the same project for more than three successive years.
- If requesting technology equipment or applications, please obtain approval and price quotes from IUSD IT/IS Department. Contact: Brianne Meyer, IUSD Chief Technology officer at . NOTE: IUSD does not currently support Apple/MAC applications.
