Summary: This workshop will detail the innovative practices and standards learned from the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid-Re Housing Program (HPRP), which was a stimulus funding program of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Lessons learned from HPRP will profoundly alter the way in which homeless consumers are served.

Summary: With the passage of the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH Act) in 2009, new national performance standards were established for homeless service providers. This workshop will detail those standards and what the immediate future will bring regarding HEARTH implementation.

Summary: With veterans’ housing assistance identified as a major focus of the current Federal administration; this workshop will detail the VA’s various housing and homelessness prevention initiatives.

Speakers: Tara Muir of Community Allianceand Denise Packard of, Center-Pointe
Summary: Consumers who are homeless and/or experiencing a co-occurring disorder are often eligible for SSI/SSDI benefits, but all too often lack advocates to apply for those same benefits. This workshop will detail the SOAR model, an innovative SSI/SSDI acquisition case management standard.

Summary: This presentation will review the planning and development process of building a new neighborhood. Will review the development basics, community support, funding sources and the development stages/processes needed to turn an alfalfa field into a subdivision of 43 units.

Speakers : Lisa Turner, Lee Heflebower,and Aaron Bowen (Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties)
Summary: Utilized as a primary tool in Community Action’s Supportive Housing Program, the intent of the group case management model is to give program participants the opportunity to provide support and guidance to each other -- and to hold other accountable in a supportive atmosphere. Case managers lead the process, but participants lead the change.

Speaker: Ed Shada, Project Homeless Connect Omaha founder and coordinator
Summary: Project Homeless Connect is a one-day event that provides a one-stop shop for homeless consumers to access housing, medical, and general services – all in one location. This workshop will detail how communities may organize a first annual Homeless Connect – and how those communities can keep the event sustainable.

Summary: Energy and utilities savings are always a relevant topic for consumers and service providers alike. This workshop will detail the “Get a Head Start on Energy” curriculum, which is promoted by the NE Energy Assistance Network (NEAN).

Summary: This session will provide a roadmap to using Low Income Housing Tax Credits to create affordable housing in your community. It will also provide examples how tax credits can create opportunities to address other housing needs in your community.

Speakers: Monica Zinke of Fresh Start Home(Lincoln) and Michelle Zinke of the NE Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Coalition
Summary: Domestic violence is one of the leading contributors to homelessness nationally. This workshop will overview the barriers and behaviors seen when working with those who are survivors of domestic violence.

Speaker: Rob Bock, Security National Bank
Summary: Originating home loans after the housing meltdown. Loan originators, realtors and Community Housing organizations live on the edge of their seats wondering if loans will be approved and what delays there could be. Rob Bock will lead a panel discussion on funding options and how to size up loan applications and which box the loan will fit into.

Summary: Street outreach is one of the most challenging aspects of service provision. This workshop will detail best practices of street outreach and will overview a successful Nebraska model.

Speakers: Dave Taladay, Southeast Nebraska Development District and Doug Goracke, City of Tecumseh
Summary: This session will discuss project development, guidelines and implementation of demolition only projects. The successful Fairbury and Tecumseh demolition projects will be specifically discussed.

Speakers: Seanna Collins, Lincoln Housing Authority and Amber Marker, Nebraska Housing Developers Association
Summary: This session will provide brief information about the tenant education curriculum, Nebraska RentWise, which was adapted from the original RentWise curriculum developed by the University of Minnesota Extension. It will take you on a journey of how NE RentWise is organized and how Lincoln Housing Authority developed and coordinated a network of volunteers to provide NE RentWise training to all community members on an ongoing basis.
