2011 Beijing International Composition Workshop (BICW)
Conversation and interaction between the East and the West
A gathering of renowned and promising composers and musicians
The first international composition workshop in China
The Central Conservatory of Music will launch the 2011 Beijing International Composition Workshop. This two-week workshop will be held in Beijing, July 18-30, 2011, as the first annual workshop that gathers excellent faculty and promising composers from all over the world every summer. During the intensive two-week programs, fellow composers and faculty will meet in individual lessons, composition seminars, faculty lectures, conducting class and rehearsals, as well as two culminating concerts, to present works, exchange ideas, and explore creative notions and means. In addition, as a special component, Chinese cultural and musical heritage will be presented in lectures and panel discussions, on Chinese traditional instruments, Chinese folk music, as well as Chinese contemporary musical tendency.

2011 BICW Tuition Fees
Fellow Composer: RMB ¥5,000yuan (USD$765)
Auditor: RMB ¥1,500yuan (USD$230)
Tuition fees must be paid in full before workshop starts on July 17, 2011. Tuition does not include accommodations. Fellow composers and auditors will need to pay accommodations by themselves. BICW will recommend hotels and restaurants as reference.
Tuition fees should be paid via the following methods:
Applicants from outside of China, pay the tuition to the Central Conservatory of Music bank account. BICW will also inform the ten selected fellow composers and auditors with the detailed bank information of the Central Conservatory of Music by Email around Mid-April and the beginning of July 2011 respectively.

To Apply:
Two categories of composers will be selected regardless of age and nationalities: a) Ten (10) fellow composers and b) auditors. Composers may apply as auditors directly. Composers who apply to the fellow composers program may be suggested to audit if not selected.

No application fees.
DEADLINE FOR RECEVING the MATERIALS: by 12am March 31, 2011
Selected fellow composers (Category a) will be asked to compose a new chamber work for 5-7 instruments chosen from the following instruments: flute doubling piccolo, clarinet doubling Bass clarinet, violin, cello, piano, percussion, and one optional Chinese instrument (among Pipa, Zheng, Erhu, Sheng). Duration: less than 10 minutes.
Selected fellow composers will be notified by email in Mid-April. The name list will also be posted on the website of the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music at http://www.ccom.edu.cn/ & http://en.ccom.edu.cn/.
Deadline of submitting the new works: by 12am June 30, 2011 (deadline for receiving the materials). For the new work, please submit one hard copy of bounded full score (in proper size), including program notes and one hard copy of unbounded parts (in letter or A4 size). In addition, please submit PDF version of full score and parts via email as well.
BICW New Music Award:
The jury will select the winning works after the premiere of the new works by the ten fellow composers, and give announcements of the following awards:
First Prize (RMB 5,000 yuan)
Second Prize (Certificate of Merit)
Third Prize (Certificate of Merit)
Honorable Mentions (3, Certificate of Merit)
