GENERAL CONDITIONS

Registration Fee

There is no fee being charged for the course. However, only selected delegates may participate in the training. Accepted candidates will be provided with training material, mid-morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch for the duration of the programme. All other costs are for the participant’s own account.

Selection Process

A selection committee will review the applications from candidates that have submitted the complete documentation by 15 October 2010. The documentation required must include:

  1. Complete Application Form
  2. Curriculum Vitae
  3. Motivation Letter
  4. Letter of support from their organization
  5. Copy of passport

As the school can accommodate a limited number of participants only, attendance will be limited to candidates who are selected by the committee; the acceptance cannot be transferred to another candidate without prior approval from the committee. Acceptance/ decline decision will be communicated on an individual basis by 15 November 2010.

Travel and Accommodation

Each delegate will be expected to make his/ her own travel arrangements. The Organising Committee has arranged favourable hotel accommodation rates for delegates within walking distance of the Kenya Bureau of Standards and the Department of Weights and Measures.

Sponsorship

Candidates are encouraged to look for sponsorship at their national institutions (travel, accommodation, per diem, etc). Limited sponsorship may be available for selected candidates. The extent of sponsorship and pre-conditions will be made known/ available in due course.

Responsibility of Delegates

Delegates requiring a letter of invitation from the hosting organization are requested to make this known to the project co-ordinator. The responsibility for obtaining a VISA, if required, is that of the individual, including all associated costs. Letters of invitation will be issued to successful applicants on request.

Special Conditions

NEITHER HOST COUNTRY NOR UNIDO WILL ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FOLLOWING EXPENSES:

·  Any expense in the home country incidental to participants’ travel, including expenditures for passports, visas, medical examinations, mandatory vaccinations, and travel to and from the airport in the home country;

·  Travel or any other costs incurred by aides or dependants accompanying participants;

·  Any additional costs incurred as a result of failure to make flight reservation for the homeward journey before departure from the home country;

·  Costs incurred by participants with respect to insurance;

·  Compensation in the event of death, disability or illness of participants;

·  Purchase of personal belongings, or compensation for any loss or damage caused by climatic or other conditions

·  Cost of meals, refreshments travel and entertainment except that is stated in the programme.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION ABOUT KENYA

Language: The official language in Kenya is English. It is the commercial language as well as the language of instruction in all educational institutions. The national language is Kiswahili, with a host of other local languages spoken.

Yellow Fever Requirements: Port Health officials at the Airport have stepped up efforts to check for compliance by arriving passengers for the Yellow Fever vaccination certificates.

Visa Information: Please confirm whether you require a visa for entry in to Kenya. If a visa is required, please allow enough time to secure one.

Climate: Average low/high temperature 14º/24º C

Electricity Supply: Electricity in Kenya is supplied at 240 AC, 50 Hz. Kenya uses the British three-pronged plugs with three rectangular blades/prongs. A converter to use appliances not running on 24 AC, 50 Hz would be required. Please bring your own converter.

Potable Water: Water purity cannot be guaranteed so bottled water is recommended at all times.

Kenyan Currency: The Kenyan currency is the Kenyan shilling (KES). Foreign exchange services are available at banks, foreign exchange bureaus and you can enquire at the hotel.

Credit Cards: Major international credit cards are accepted in Kenya and most ATMs accept any international VISA and MASTERCARD credit cards.

Telecommunications: Cellular phone coverage is provided by Zain Communications Ltd and Safaricom Ltd. Area Code: country +254, city +20.
