Gates Millennium Scholars / The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian Pacific Islander American**, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest. Continuing Gates Millennium Scholars may request funding for a graduate degree program in one of the following discipline areas: computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science.

Georgia United Scholarship- Vernon E. Carnes Scholarship / Seniors who plan on attending a college or technical school this fall may apply for this scholarship. The program focuses on a short essay of 250 words or less. This year’s topic is “Explain how the credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people’ helps consumers during these difficult economic times, while providing an alternative to large commercial banks”. In addition, Students will need to complete a Georgia United scholarship form and include a copy of their high school transcript and a copy of their acceptance letter from the college or technical school they plan to attend. The essay theme for 2012 is “Is the value of fire sprinklers truly understood by the general public, the media, and homebuilders? If not, why does this life-saving device continue to get little to no exposure, and how would you change this? DeSANA Educational Fund Scholarship / Students applying for this scholarship must be a resident of Forsyth County for a minimum of one year prior to submission of application, be accepted for enrollment as a full-time student on an accredited college or vocational school, and be a Forsyth county high school graduate in year applying for scholarship. Application for scholarship will be considered on the basis of financial need, demonstrated leadership skills, extra-curricular activities, academic performance, academic and other scholastic awards, and community involvement. This scholarship is given in memory of Judge Richard Neville.
