2Definitions

Operational requirements are any legal requirements, standards, codes of practice, organisational and/or site policies and procedures, and manufacturer’s instructions that apply to this unit standard. In addition, particular operational requirements may be specified in performance criteria.

The Road Code is The official New Zealand road code for motorcyclists including licence and study guide, current version, NZTA.

Element 1

Describe requirements in owning and riding a motorcycle used for courier operations.

Performance criteria

1.1Description identifies operational requirements of motorcycle ownership.

Rangevehicle licensing, warrant of fitness, safety of motorcycle.

1.2Description identifies operational requirements related to riding a motorcycle used for courier operations.

Rangeconsumption of alcohol and/or other drugs, Class 6 licence, compliance with road rules, goods service licence and/or transport service licence, personal conduct on the road, state and appearance of motorcycle, condition of communications and ancillary equipment.

Element 2

Describe safety and maintenance requirements of a motorcycle used for courier operations.

Performance criteria

2.1Description of safety check is consistent with the Road Code.

Rangepetrol and oil, controls, tyres, lights, horn, chain (where fitted), mirrors.

2.2Description explains implications of conducting regular checks and corrections in terms of safe operation of a motorcycle used for courier operations.

Rangecables, levers, chains.

2.3Description identifies cleaning and non-technical maintenance of the motorcycle consistent with operational requirements.

Rangedaily, periodically.

2.4Description identifies maintenance needs of a motorcycle consistent with its work requirements and manufacturer’s instructions.

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
